Bobby Petrino could bolt from Louisville

First being tied for a division does not make one a conference winner.......epically when you don't even go the championship game.

Petrino won C USA title in 04 and a B East title in 06

Also as I have stated before 4 10 to 10+ seasons is not exactly what I think everyone thinks of when they think of Petrino.......I mean it seems like some think he is almost always 10+. Also not saying he isn't a good coach (because he is), but with the baggage, with Louisville now, and with nothing showing he would be elite......I would look elsewhere.

Franklin - prob would/maybe should not happen
Chip
David Shaw
Stoops
Patterson
Chris Peterson
Venables
maybe even the Utah coach
Martin

Based on the rules, I think it does but I digress. So Petrino hasnt done anything except win two/three conference championships and a few 10 win seasons but your number one choice has one 10 win season and no conference championships? Dont get me wrong, I think Franklin would be a great hire. I would rather have him than Petrino but to act like Petrino isn't as good or better coach just makes no sense. Bad person maybe but a great football coach.

I like your list but think most of it is unrealistic. We would have to make Franklin one of the top 3 highest paid coaches to get him here and on paper I don't see that he is any better than Petrino who would be considerably cheaper and probably doesnt have much more baggage. Shaw/Stoops/Patterson ain't coming. Chris Peterson would be a great choice. Him and Kelly could potentially work. Tee and Venables are risky. I think they would excite the fan base but you definitely don't know what you are going to get.

Actually, that's not entirely correct. His career path pretty much goes as follows:

:

That was way too long to read but I know his history. Again, I say, if he was so bad then why did Louisville hire him back despite the motorcycle incident? Also, talking to someone about a job and taking another job are not the same thing and is not out of the ordinary in college football or any other profession. Do you get approval from your employer everytime someone approaches you about a job?

I didn't really have them in order, as Chip would be my first choice (because franklin has Tennessee baggage, and others prob could not be had.....and Chip could be had and I think Tennessee could win in the short term)

Most on my list or anyone's list would be at least somewhat of a gamble.

The only ones that would certainly be locks is those that most of us think could never happen.........But I think Tennessee is going to have to try everything they can to pick up one of those guys.

Now the lists are long, so even if Tennessee cannot get one of those "lock" guys, there are certainly some who could turn into a lock.

I would support offering him an account with Harley Davidson of Knoxville and season tickets to the the Lady Vols volleyball games.

He's a winner, but if we want baggage, I'm a huge fan of Art Briles.

Art Briles's baggage is not even in the same league as any other coach. Well maybe the old Baylor basketball who tried to cover up a murder. What is up with these Baylor coaches and at a place who tries to come across morally superior to every other school.

Good list, I like all of them. Shaw next stop though is not another college job, but the NFL. Peterson is going nowhere, he will retire from UW. Even though Patterson wanted the job a few years ago, he is older now and TCU had given him everything he has wanted, even when they were having a player drug bust every week.

I hate Franklin, but if he were my coach I would think differently. Chip Kelly would be a rock star here, especially getting all those SoCal running backs to come here. He would take the SEC like Spurrier did.

I would withdraw all support from UT permanently if Bobby Petrino, Rick Neuheisel, or Dennis Erickson were ever to be hired as head coach.

Bunch of people riding that high horse in this thread. I don't give two sheets about that man's martial problems or any other problems. Most people who complain about others problems as if they are above them are hiding some darker. Most of you complaining about his affair would probably die before letting anyone see you internet history alone. That goes double for the bible thumpers.

Of course we all have secrets. Most of us are just smart enough to not hire our side hoe at the office and then get caught crashing a motorcycle with her on it.

Most? Can you proof that or are you just utterly full of it and
saying most because you know "most" will agree with you and say they would never do this? Come back down to earth man.

So you would say "most" are indeed dumb enough to hire the person were having an affair with and then crash a motorcycle with them on it? There's some dumb cheaters out there but Petrino was pretty far up there on the list.

I don't mind what you do in your personal life to a certain extent, but if you're in a high profile position then use some common sense when doing whatever you're doing.

It's incredible how people try to frame this as bible thumpers in an uproar when that's probably the smallest of about 10 red flags.

off topic, but has everyone checked out the Louisville basketball message boards over the past few days. If not they are a must see.

He's a winner, he does have a sleaze factor associated with him no doubt, but I'm no Boy Scout either and if we didn't have sinners we wouldn't need churches and preachers. He'd be my #1 pick if he became available. If you want a guy teaching Bible classes, go 10-2 every year, never play for a title, go get Mark Richt.

How many titles does ole Bobby have under his belt?

How many 10 win seasons?

I'll take CMR and his integrity and 9 seasons of 10 wins over Bobby's sleaze and 4 seasons with 10 wins.

But that's just me

I'd rather have Kiffin than Petrino--less baggage, excellent offensive coach and knows the SEC and UT--and i'm past the fact that he stiffed us years ago.

Speaking of slimy... Deer lowered.

Lexus wreck?
Hostess gate?
College girls?

Geeze if that's a choice we really have lost our way.

I don't give a crap if he's slimy....he's the best coach we have a possible shot at getting to coach here...period....plus....I would not be scared to turn on the game and watch us compete against higher level teams...I think if he's coaching here yesterday we either win or at least come very close to winning against Georgia...dude is an offensive genius and could do wonders with our qbs!!!...UT should offer a healthy salary....and throw in a free harley and a couple cheerleaders to boot....do whatever it takes....make it happen!!!!..…..GBO!!!
