agreed, this does not make sense......it was stuped play calling and Butch's stubbornness that hurt 2015....NOT CJJ Fire a perfectly serviceable employee at $515,000 and hire a guy at $1,300,000......feels like government work to me

I don't see red flags because in Shoop we have 5 years of an overall outstanding track record while working with much less talent than he would have here, all while having to manage his defense to counterbalance a putrid, non productive James Franklin-led offense every year.

If you take the composite, average national rankings of his defenses the last 5 years, at Vandie and Penn State, one school that is chronically awful at recruiting top talent and the other which had been hamstrung in its recruiting the last 4 years due to sanctions and scandal.....he has coordinated, on average, the 14th ranked defense in the country...out of 125 schools. Less than ideal circumstances to say the least....outstanding results, to say the least.

We can legitimately debate whether or not the program should go down the road of beginning to pay coordinators 1mm or more per year which is essentially twice what we pay them now. No worries there. But I don't think it can be credibly argued that Shoop wouldn't be a substantial upgrade over a DC who presided over the 37th and 36th ranked defenses the last two years while, at one point, giving up 9 out of 9 4th down conversions earlier this season.

IMHO, Jancek was a good coordinator, where Shoop has shown to date that he is a great one.

We blew double digit leads in every loss but Bama...and blew a lead late in that one. We should have been able to depend on the defensive play calling to pull out at least one of those, specifically the infamous 4th down call in the swamp that will go down in history with the likes of "too many men on the field" at LSU. He said he just went to the well one too many times, as if calling the same set and scheme over and over would be unexpected! We weren't atrocious and we were playing great teams in those games, but I'm sure Jones would like to be able to count on his defense to protect double digit leads late. Good luck to the guy...honestly. But 7th in the SEC isn't going to cut it, especially when literally EVERY team in the SEC East had less than average QB's this year. If we got a stop in the swamp, or in the OU game, or the end of the Bama game then we probably aren't even discussing this...just two plays and the guy is golden. That's just how it works as we all know. :good!:

Very fair. :thumbsup: I was just trying to point out that by giving up 327 yards and 24 points was not a bad day, while our day of 444 yards and (17) points is not spectacular.

Its a major upgrade on paper. We will see how it turns out on the field.

I have seen references to rumors about rumors but still have yet to see or hear an actual rumor. I don't think it had anything to do with off the field stuff, other than perhaps personality clashes.

All I'm going to say is this. If your boss tells you to fix something and you say ok. And never do it. Them you guys have a talk about it again. And again and again. Eventually you will be fired. If you can't get along with your boss you need to go.

I have seen the rumors discussed time and time again, Some one JUST SAY IT. What are we talking? Chasing coeds, drugs, drinks, midgets,,,,,just say it. Eluding to something is just as bad as saying it.
