i think i am much more mature than you give me credit for. i have hated rap for the past 2 or 3 years, claiming that it is crap (just like most of you). However, i am surprised at how closed-minded all of you are towards it. Some of it is very, very good, and a lot of the songs and verses are very well put together and have a lot of meaning.

There are plenty of reasons i could say country is crap music. but if i did that, everyone would get all butt hurt.

Just because there is a lot of cursing in rap doesn't mean it is crap.

regardless, you are making a huge generalization that in the end, doesn't even matter. Jimi Hendrix was on all kind of drugs when he was big. drugs don't make music bad.

As a matter of fact drugs alcohol and sex are glorified in rock n roll. Is it not?

I'll humor you this much and then you can decide how you want to play it.

Growing up, I listened to a ton of rap. I still listen to some as it reminds me of growing up, times shared with friends ect ect...I listened to the hard rap too. Not the crappy stuff that they played on the radio. The stuff that if my parents heard, they would throw it away rap. NWA, Eazy E, 2Live Crew, the really explicit stuff.

I would blare it from me speakers in my truck all through the high school parking lot, just as loud as it would go.

As I got older, I realized that all those really cool f bombs and sexual references and degradation of women, police, other races, homosexuals, and government were not as socially acceptable by the majority. Im not saying you have to be PC or a conformist, but realize this.

If you pulled up to a park blaring a song like "I'd Rather F You" by Eazy E, where my little girl is playing and Im hanging out with my 66 year old mother and family and there's a lot of women and children around, Im going to ask you to turn it down. If you refuse, I'm going to turn it down for you. Thats not being arrogant or "E-tough". Thats me being real.

There's a time in your life when you'll realize that gangster rap is nothing more than a glorification for crime, oppression, degradation of humanity, and a few cool drum beats in the background. Im no hypocrite, I'll admit I listened to it for much of my youth. As an adult, husband and father, I dont find it as entertaining anymore though.

It has a time and place. The time for you is now. Enjoy it, but down the road, you'll grow out of it and understand what Im talking about.

and if rap is crap, country is too.

they use the same a c d and e chords rearranged for the most part, all the songs sound the same. They're all extremely simple, and the lyrics usually don't differ much either.

i understand exactly what you are saying, but now understand me. I don't live by these songs or take the words of explicit rappers to be solid truths. I don't care about gang wars or support the degradation of women, the police, other races, or homosexuals. I feel like i am intelligent enough to listen to and enjoy a certain type of music while recognizing that its message may not mesh very well with my values. In the end, it is a song.

However, to group all rap into that one, explicit category is just ignorant. Some rap is very good, and very well put together. Some even has a really good meaning. I would think some people wouldn't be so closed minded as to assume that all rap sucks just because some of it does. There's a reason they are rich and much more successful than a lot of people in the world. That's all i'm saying.

The Bloods and Crips are wealthy because they commit crime and get away with it for a short period of time. Don't kid yourself.

These things tend to work themselves out on their own as they typically get killed or arrested within a decade of being "rich". Its very glamorous. Just ask that kid that sang the stupid "Dougie" song that got popped this week.

"Gang music" is stupid.

Crips are stupid.

Bloods are stupid.

This thread is pointless.
