I'll humor you this much and then you can decide how you want to play it.
Growing up, I listened to a ton of rap. I still listen to some as it reminds me of growing up, times shared with friends ect ect...I listened to the hard rap too. Not the crappy stuff that they played on the radio. The stuff that if my parents heard, they would throw it away rap. NWA, Eazy E, 2Live Crew, the really explicit stuff.
I would blare it from me speakers in my truck all through the high school parking lot, just as loud as it would go.
As I got older, I realized that all those really cool f bombs and sexual references and degradation of women, police, other races, homosexuals, and government were not as socially acceptable by the majority. Im not saying you have to be PC or a conformist, but realize this.
If you pulled up to a park blaring a song like "I'd Rather F You" by Eazy E, where my little girl is playing and Im hanging out with my 66 year old mother and family and there's a lot of women and children around, Im going to ask you to turn it down. If you refuse, I'm going to turn it down for you. Thats not being arrogant or "E-tough". Thats me being real.
There's a time in your life when you'll realize that gangster rap is nothing more than a glorification for crime, oppression, degradation of humanity, and a few cool drum beats in the background. Im no hypocrite, I'll admit I listened to it for much of my youth. As an adult, husband and father, I dont find it as entertaining anymore though.
It has a time and place. The time for you is now. Enjoy it, but down the road, you'll grow out of it and understand what Im talking about.
