Sorry if already posted, but there is a long interview in the audio on this link. Coleman gets pretty expressive and has some interesting things to say.
Chattanooga Times Free Press | Coleman: No fair shake
It's a little different reading his quote's in articles than listening to him directly (i guess you could say). BJ is pissed.
I got the same impression. Not defending him at all, but this is a kid who has had his mouth shut for 3 years. He has never been a distraction or any kind of complainer. Is it a bit strange to hear that from him? Just makes me wonder why he is so angry? Those just aren't the words of a kid who didn't get his dreams fulfilled, they are harsher.
Here's what is bothering me, it seems Kiffin is determined to make Crompton "work", b/c he best fits his own system. Coleman may have been the better game player, but he wasn't what Kiffin wanted, b/c he didn't fit his system, nor did he have the type of skills Kiffin wants for the system he wants to run. It seems Coleman was a square peg for Kiffin's round hole. Urban Meyer didn't ditch Chris Leak, even though Leak was the same way (not making a direct talent comparison btwn Leak and Coleman), Meyer reformulated his own system to fit the players he was dealt. Obviously when Tebow came, he began to run his system, but Meyer didn't force it on Leak, but he played Leak and ran an offense that was productive for Leak.
I'm bothered that Kiffin would be so obsessed with his own system, and showing it to recruits, that any talent that doesn't fit into his system, he gladly just says 'later'. I know lots of you think everything Kiffin does is "gospel", but is anyone else a bit unnerved here?
Probably because he has a lot of confidence, and an over inflated sense of self. Maybe he isn't getting a fair shake at Tennessee, but two coaching staffs have placed him behind Jonathon and Nick. If he were the next coming of Peyton Manning I can assure you he would be our starting QB, but I don't understand why people are trying to blame Lane Kiffin for looking at his options and saying "You know what? I don't know that this kid gives me the best chance to win." Because Phil Fulmer did the same thing.
People continue to blame Kiffin and no one even knows for sure that he ever said that BJ didnt fit his system. Maybe, just maybe, he actually thinks Crompton is better. And maybe, just maybe BJ should have been willing to accept that and WAIT HIS TURN like so many other football players have to. For all he knows it might have been his turn IN THE FIRST GAME.
If you listen to the interview is seems that the ONLY WAY BJ thought he would be getting a fair shake is if he was named the starter...and I do not think it is OK for any player to act as if they DESERVE to be given anything...
I don't mean to be annoying and argumentative, but I'm just thinking through this. It seemed BJ just wanted a shot to work with the first team, and he wasn't even getting that. Did it make sense to anyone else in the O/W game that Coleman was not being rewarded with more series based on his play? or even an opportunity with the first team?
The fact that Coleman nor Stephens got a shot with the first team O against the first team D makes me think Kiffin is full of it for not just naming Crompton the starter.
