BJ Coleman (Merged)

That's what makes this board interesting that we sometimes disagree. I just want to know why Michael Rozier is a better 3rd option than BJ Coleman. When someone can explain that to me outside of the impact on recruiting, I will be happy.

Oh, I haven't seen the kid, but I'm sure he is not nearly as good as coleman...so it's a depth chart issue.

Anybody who is putting stock in a kid who was a two star out of high school and hasn't been in the game for years needs to have a reality check.

Crompton will be starting this year and in 2010 the QB race is wide open. I hope the QB recruits for 2010 are taking notice.

I'd love for any one of the guys to be "the man". I really don't care who it is. (My son isn't old enough yet :))

I'd rather our coach be honest (whatever his opinion is) than be a phony. BJ's not the guy? OK. Whatever. He told him the truth and gave him a chance to play elsewhere. Is that a bad thing?

I love the Kiffin honesty. The truth hurts sometimes, but he basically freed BJ to make a decision on what's best for him.

I still say Duke is a great option. He's not heading to the NFL. Why not get a great education on the house and rejoin the coach who seemed to like him the most along the way?

BJ is making a stupid move, just look at most of the one's who left because they are cry babies that ended up doing nothing. He has a real chance of playing this year especially next year. Well he needs to leave anyway because he seems to not be a team player anyway.

Well I have a problem with that, I'm sorry. I just don't agree with it. You don't put recruiting above your own team. BJ had the support of the team more than any other QB. I wasn't rooting for him to win the job this year, but I think he could have been a better QB than Crompton was and likely started next year for us. I don't give a crap what his skillset is, he's better than starting a true freshman.

Some of you don't realize how bad this year is for drop-back Pro-style QB's. If we miss on Heaps or Scroggins, the level of talent takes a nose dive. And neither of those guys are certainties at this point. We haven't even been talking to Scroggins, we've been e-mailing him, which is strange since another prospect mentioned that the coaches don't respond to email.

This is faaaarr from Kiffins' team.

No...

Cry babies? We don't need no stinkin' cry babies!

I thought I would post this again. This is from Basilio's "X" man. If this is true, we are in deep sh*t for the next couple of years.

My conspiracy theory on this ex-professional baseball QB prospect (Mike Rozier) is that if we take him OR he elects to come to UT (the Red Sox are paying for his education) I don’t believe we take a QB prospect in this upcoming class.

Reason being that while yes they are recruiting a number of quarterback prospects the pro-style prospects they seem to be fond of right now are in the 2011 class. Plus this Rozier kid has a connection somewhat distant albeit with the #1 Wide Receiver prospect on UT’s Board Markeith Ambles.. We'll see. Like I said you know me I'm a black helicopter guy and I'm piecing things together based upon things I have heard

Makes sense to me, because he's a Jr this season, and if he was the starter all yr and as productive, you can't sell the immediate playing time for a 4*-5* recruit. But, with BJ gone, it thins us out and makes the whole playing time more appealing.

Coleman would have been a Redshirt Sophomore this year.

Cut would probably love to have him. And both would probably benefit in the end.

Good luck to BJC.

I highly doubt the Kiffin would sacrifice wins for a recruit. He knows he has to win and he wants to win now. People should just throw that thoery in the trash. What he is doing is getting the people that he doesn't think can play and the ones that would hurt the team from an overall standpoint out. He is increasing the team morale which has been very poor as of late. Look at the recent article on Foster for evidence. This will be a very tight knit team with an "Us against the World" attitude. I think the team will be better off. I do wish all of the former Vols well in their futures.

btw, I'm not arguing against you guys. I don't like the feel of this either and hope that there isn't any damage done as far as recruiting the Chattanooga area. BJ does seem to be a high caliber kid.

I'm just saying that some of you are too quick to go into melt down over this. BJ obviously thinks his prospects are better elsewhere. I wish he didn't. He might have started this year or for all we know he may have beaten out the new hot shot next year.

OTOH, if he was inciting team mates by carping about not being given a fair shake then he put CLK in a corner.

I agree.

Would you rather start BJ for two years with a stud learning the offense under him and getting some game time here and there.

Or start a true freshman that only has 6 months to learn the offense - that is if they early enroll.

Also, you are right. This is not a deep pool of pro-style QBs...if you miss out on Heaps or Scroggins, then the others may end up being worse than a BJ or Crompton...although they could turn out better as well. But that is a HUGE gamble and one I don't think this staff should take being their first year.

The sad thing is that we are saying goodbye to upstanding citizens like BJ Coleman and possibly allowing a player that threatened to kill his teacher on the team.

(I've got some venting to do today.)

Which QB are the players behind? Not looking for opinions here..anyone from the inside?

I remember hearing that most players believed that Crompton was easily the best this spring. But remember that I heard that FROM someone presumably on the inside, and am not actually on the inside myself. I am 100% sure I heard it though.

What's the big deal people? Coleman wasn't good enough to start under three OCs. Do you think they all had it wrong? Stephens will start this year, they will sign two top rated QB's that will compete for the starting job next year and one of them or both of them will perform better than anything we saw last year or will see this year. BOOK IT!

To be fair, B.J. was going to redshirt Erik Ainge's senior season no matter how good he was, so it's not like Cutcliffe and Fulmer were going to run him out there as a true freshman. Clawson's inept ability to run an offense barely counts, and Fulmer still only allowed Coleman to play that one series all season.

I do feel like he has some talent, and that if I was running the team he would probably be my leader. But I don't run the team, and he's leaving so he can go play. Maybe he doesn't care about the NFL or even SEC glory, he just wants to play. I don't think the people piling on him as a quitter are being totally fair.

I also don't think this a pitch black dark day in UT sports. We barely had three serviceable quarterbacks before, it's not like his loss means 1-11 is in our future all of a sudden.

How do you know he was? Can you site a source for this claim?

PLAYERS. This is coming from the players.
Anyone with a Rivals subscription will tell you the same. It was said by multiple people that have spoken to players that the players were rooting for BJ to win the job. I have heard this multiple times.
