BJ Coleman (Merged)

Coleman had no chance and knew it. Moving on.

I'm not saying this in a negative way, but I think that if Coleman felt that next year's QB recruiting has less to do with him having no chance than his on-the-field play, then he would still be a backup QB on this team.

I think that one definitely has to consider this aspect before being too upset with him choosing to leave.

I just hope this doesn't cause a division in the team. We don't need any distractions on what will be a difficult year already

Now honestly, if I am the coach I am looking long term (3-4 years) at my personnel. If I don’t see a player that I think can either play at this level or be my future starter why shouldn’t I do the honorable thing and be up front with him.

BJ made a decision based on information that was given to him and who knows if it is the right one. Maybe it is a mistake on the coaching staff’s part and he turns out to be a high quality QB at a smaller school (doubt that it is UTC though) or maybe on BJ’s. No one will know that answer for another year or two.

I wish him well in what he chooses to do and hope that there are no hard feelings.

He isn't Juco. He is like Chris Weinke from FSU - he played baseball for 5 years out of High School, and washed out. So now he is coming back to play football.

I am not sure if he is taking up a scholarship or not. I heard he was a walk-on at first, but then later I was hearing that he is taking up a scholarship, but the Red Sox are paying for it.

He is not on scholly. The Sox are contractually bound to pay for his schooling.

Everyone has their own opinions. I think this points to bleak times for the Vols. I'm losing confidence in this coaching staff. My opinion and I know not everyone is going to share it. Too many stupid moves since Kiffin was hired for me to have any confidence in them going forward.

What does Coleman leaving have to do with CLK? Coleman doesn't think he will get a chance to lead the team. We already know none of these guys are going to be the answer we need. It looks as though CLK is going to go with Crompton and try to pull a stud at qb for next year. Again how does this show a negative for CLK? Coleman is doing what he believes is in his best interest.

This just gives us something to talk about on here. It has been a little quite around here lately.

Except probably a considerably worse QB than Weinke.

Right. I was not trying to imply their skill level was the same (I was hoping in my first post, where I said I was scared that he was all we had behind Stephens and Crompton would clear that up).

I am not even convinced he will stay with the program. He may leave after just a few weeks into it. From what I understand, its pretty intense in practice, conditioning, etc.

The last pictures I saw of the kid he was skinny as a rail, and they said he flopped out of MLB because of an attitude problem (or more like a lack of confidence/mental issue of some kind). I'm just not sure he can cut it here. As far as I'm concerned, right now he is just a scout team QB.

I would love for him to turn into Chris Weinke and light it up, but I am certainly not banking on that happening.

It definitely does that. I hope we hear more of the story here. It certainly sounds to me almost like BJ was told to leave. I just have issues with that. He is a good kid. Never had any issues whatsoever.

What the heck is going on with our team? I bet Urban and Tebow are licking their chops right now.

I think he had a real shot of being a starter...unless the coaching staff has wanted JC to be qb all along.

.... Or maybe CLK just didn't think BJ was nearly as good as you all seem to.

I have no earthly idea what happened but with everyone else eagerly chirping that everything is competitive and they're happy to be getting an equal shot... it seems a little odd that BJ would be the ONLY one not getting a "fair shake".

I personally DO think it looks like a mistake on the surface but honestly this sounds somewhat personal. Not every player/coach or employee/boss can get along personally and be productive. Doesn't mean they're bad... maybe they just don't fit each other?

I agree. I want to know more. He wanted to be a Vol and he was a good kid.

I hope it works out for all involved parties.
