BJ Coleman (Merged)

Yeh... while I'm on a roll, I have to wonder if we're desperate enough to put up with Mitch Mustain. That's a lot of baggage, but if CPC was going to release him, CLK could be one person he'd consider.

And, even though Mustain doesn't know Peyton played 4 years of college football, the idea of contributing two years and moving on, could fit still fit with recruiting a super Frosh next season.

Okay. I'm done with bad thoughts for the day.

Mustain won't have any eligibility left if he transfers and sits out.

I hate to be the one who posts this since I am a very strong Kiffin supporter, but it is about right now that I sort of wish Taj Boyd was coming to the Hill this fall.

Forgive me for posting that.

He wouldn't have been able to play this coming season.

How good is a one-legged QB?

Tajh Boyd had ACL surgery in Feb. and would not be able to play this year and Mitch Mustain could not transfer here, because he doesn't have enough eligibility to play here.

anything else you want to throw out there?

2nd string... something smells fishy. I mean why would a qb quit after playing a good spring game less than a week ago. As far as I know Kiffin hasn't given any indication of who will be the starter in Sept. It is only April. One injury/ some bad handoffs/ or a couple INT's by Crompton and I believe Coleman would be starting. I just dont know why he would work so hard to this point, just to throw it down the drain. The only other colleges I see BJ starting at will be something like UTC. More power to the guy.

This coaching staff is awesome. Its not about favorites, its not about what the fans think, and its not about whose been here longer. Its not about a CLK conspiracy to use JC to make himself look better because he recruited him at usc. . . and its definitely not about just one (the 2009) season.

It IS about . . are you man enough to play on this team and even if you are, do you fit in to the bigger picture. As much as JC has struggled, neither NS or BJ have seperated themselves above him.. that is not the coaches fault. Not one of us as fan or any one player has the pressure building for success of the Tennessee Volunteers football programs as the coaching staff.

At least they are not wishy washy. They are on point and we will see if each of the spots that have come open from dismissals and quitting are not upgraded. I believe they will be.

Wow...O well...It does look like he is making room for a big catch next year or setting himself up for a bad situation...We will see...Good luck elsewhere BJ!

Everyone has their own opinions. I think this points to bleak times for the Vols. I'm losing confidence in this coaching staff. My opinion and I know not everyone is going to share it. Too many stupid moves since Kiffin was hired for me to have any confidence in them going forward.

Who's the walk-on from Knoxville, again? :p

I wish I knew why people think he would have been the starter any more than the other two. Its a process of elimination i guess. You figure if 1 and 2 suck 3 must be the way to go? I don't get that. None of the 3 seperated themselves, and with them never seperating themselves, BJ was always going to be 3rd string. The only way he would see playing time would be out of total frustration with the other two above him's performance.

I don't blame him but I doubt he will do much at another D1 school. Rozier sure ain't the answer either-so yes we will blow at QB again this year unless Stephens can throw the long ball 8-10 times a game and connect with Denarius, then we may have something.

In 2010 look for a bonafied top flight young gun to come in and start as a freshman, but he will take his lumps too being a freshman qb in the SEC.

In 2011, if this staff can hold together and the fan base can keep the faith, we will rise from the ashes and return to the elite.

I read this all on a bathroom stall at a Cracker Barrel outside of Springfield Missouri written by some guy named Nostradamus. There was a post script too, something about 2012...

I'm talking about their QB situation and their subsequent season.

I'm wondering if he didn't march into Kiffin's office and basically give him an ultimatum, saying "start me or I'm gone," and Kiffin said "you will have to continue to compete like the rest of the guys." Because Coleman said he felt he wasn't getting a fair shake @ the job, but in my opinion, after the spring game, he was in the best position to start. So I have to assume there is something going on behind closed doors that we don't know about.

I'm not hugely concerned, because I think he was probably only slightly better than Crompton passing the ball, but I felt Crompton ran the offense a little more smoothly at the spring game (selling the play action better, managing the offense, etc), but who knows if that was just bc it was a vanilla offense.
My main area of concern is our depth. 2 Injuries away from Rozier, who is wildly unproven, and may not even last in the program. If he DOES leave, then that would leave us with what, using some type of G-gun offense? Rotating in players like Berry, Jones, Nuke, Teague, etc so they don't get overly tired/to minimize the risk of injury for just 1 of them?

Excuse me....but in absolutely no way is BJ and idiot. He knows that he will not be given a chance....plain and simple. I really hate this so bad. But BJ is no idiot sir.

I just hope that BJ lands at a school and gets that opportunity to play.

I may be alittle sensitive on this one.....but again in no way is BJ and idiot. The coaches.....as they have with other players helped BJ make his decision plain and simple. BJ had no choice....so how can knowing he will never get a chance possibly make him the idiot? He has given it everything he could possibly give. You will never find a more dedicated player than him. That must have not been enough for this staff. But no sir....he is not an idiot....quite the opposite.

You're killing me...

What about the JUCO guy coming in? Rozier?

He isn't Juco. He is like Chris Weinke from FSU - he played baseball for 5 years out of High School, and washed out. So now he is coming back to play football.

I am not sure if he is taking up a scholarship or not. I heard he was a walk-on at first, but then later I was hearing that he is taking up a scholarship, but the Red Sox are paying for it.

I'm thinking it is more of option 2. And I am completely puzzled by it.

I am telling you that this has to do with recruiting. As stupid and insane as this sounds, that is the reason.

Kiffin is going to ride out Crompton for a year and play a true freshman next year. A HUGE gamble.

With Stephens and Rozier walking on he feels that he can get through the season and then will rely on a true feshman to lead the team.

Well, I guess this was the highly-touted player that would be leaving after the O&W game? Though...highly touted is probably a stretch...I was thinking more along the lines of a Chris Donald (though that may still come).

I think that the team loses a lot of leadership with BJ...and if the staff suggested to him that he really wouldn't have a chance to start, and he feels that he can compete with more success elsewhere, then this may be the best decision for him.

This does leave the team in a precarious spot. One injury to Crompton or Stephens and we have no QB rotation....just our starter...and then the scout team. I wish that we could have kept that depth, but now we just hope we don't have key injuries and move on.

I don't know how I feel about the staff not trying to keep him...I like the honesty, but can they truly say at this point that he doesn't have a chance to start? What do they know that we don't about how the fall is going to play out, what injuries are going to happen, or what QBs we'll sign in the next class?

he said himself he didn't quit. He was convinced that it would be in his best future to leave.

That means he quit...

If a guy comes up to you wanting to fight because you messed with his GF and your run away, you chickened out.

It was probably in your best interest to run, but you still chickened out.

Wow.

Kiff releases a 3rd string qb who's never played a significant snap of college football, and it's enough for you to lose all confidence in him?

I want to know what is wrong with our system that these kids can't succeed in it? BJ looked like he was handling it pretty well all spring.
