BJ Coleman (Merged)

Oh I know very well about him. I followed his entire career at McCallie. His foundation began at home. McCallie just made it deeper.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>
I thought it was pretty neat how he and Baylor's Kevin Cooper fought it out on the field in high school. And has been college room mates at UT. Now Cooper is a beast and I was happy to hear Kiffin heaping praise on him. Cooper is another great kid.

How do you know that Stephens doesn't have the mental tools?

You're so wrapped up in Coleman that you say whatever you think can change people's minds.

Of course the injury is what made him look bad at the spring game. He broke his throwing wrist less than two months ago. He missed almost all of spring camp, yet he still got on the field and tried to compete. That shows the staff something, as it does with his teammates too.

He didn't play, couldn't work out his throwing arm, and lost time to refine his game under a true QB coach.

This competition won't be over until the fall, no matter how much you want a Tennessean running the offense.

Amen

So you'd rather have some kid from Texas than home state Tennessee?? That just pains me to here.

This is your whole problem. You have a biased opinion...I do not care if the QB is the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz as long as he can win games..You are arguing your chose based on what state the player comes from? That is absurd! Almost sounds like something an Alabama fan would say.

Well it would be awesome to have a winning qb that was home grown in Tennessee. But I agree with you....we just need one that can get us victories no matter where they are from.

I couldn't care less about any school in Chatt. but if you are going for leaders or high character guys, I don't know how this really helps your case, on multiple levels. Seems like your going for "notable alums" which doesn't really support the case as much.

I don't want some guy on the field just bc he's from Tenn. I'd much rather see D. Moore and G Jones on the field than A Rogers or Tyler Maples.

I'm saying if Coleman can beat out Stephens (which I think he will), I'd enjoy a Tenn boy getting to start for the Vols. I'm not for downgraded talent in favor of local boys.

Why all the arguing anyway? Coleman wont start and mess up our chances of getting a real QB. He doesnt have the physical tools. If its close between JC and BJ, JC wins so he can point to a graduating starting QB. BJ will not be our starter and we should be thanking god. He is not a top level SEC QB and doesnt look capable of becoming one.

If you watched some spring game highlights and I assume you did...did you see where Crompton just threw the ball up in double coverage and let Warren "go get it"? This is the Crompton tha played in the 06 game against LSU when he was just throwing the ball up and let Meachem "go up and get it". We need a QB that can do more than that..hit receivers on a slant or in stride..This is hard for Crompton based on his accuracy...I believe that BJ can hit the short slants better than Crompton but IMO I believe that Nick is all around the better qb than the other two...if he can rehab his wrist during the summer which I think that he will...we will be in great shape..Nick can throw darts has great vision (seems several inches taller than the other two) and can check off receivers. This is my opinion..obviously..I rember the first game Fulmer put Nick in in place of Crompton they moved the ball downfield very quickly..he has been noted as a "gunslinger" and is not afraid to make things happen or throw downfield.

While I agree he's not the best option at present, I disagree that he doesn't have the makings of an SEC QB. He has all the ingredients necessary to compete at this level. He just has some things he needs to continue to work on. He makes good decisions with the ball and is fairly accurate. Already has good rapport with many of his receivers and seems to have developed chemistry there with a couple as well. He could definitely be the guy to take over while we groom a freshman next year IMO.

Well one thing we know is JC isn't and NS has done nothing to prove he is. One thing BJ is capable of is giving us a better chance.

That's a stupid argument. None of the QB's have done anything to prove that they are capable at this point so to single any one out of that group for that reason doesn't make any sense. The guy who wins the job will be the guy who shows the coaches -- now and in the fall -- that they are our best chance to win games. Past performance is not a factor.

You may say it is stupid but!

Insanity is continuing to do the same thing over and over and expecting different results. That is based on past performance. The jury may still be out on NS but not JC. He can not get it done.

This is a new staff. They haven't done anything with these guys yet. Insanity is finding a method that works and choosing to do something completely different. These coaches have experience. They know what their guy looks like.

What do you base this opinion on? His play?

clearly the fact that he went to the same school as this guy

You were not saying staff. I trust the staff but it will be a very long yesr if JC is the starter for 12 games and if that happens we may be 6-6 at best

I think the coaches are much better suited to decide who gives us the best chance to win than some obviously-biased Chattanooga fan. If they say that guy is Crompton, then it's Crompton as far as I'm concerned. I will be happy with 6-6 and be thankful that we didn't start a lesser quality QB and miss another bowl.

I never said I didn't trust the coaches&#8217; decisions. I said JC could not be any better than 6-6. Which means if he is the best then God help us, and if you can be happy with 6-6 you would have wanted CPF still around.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

Your contempt is noted. <o:p></o:p>

I don't think this team is any better than 7-8 wins no matter who the QB is. I won't be happy with 6 wins, but I trust the coaches to put the best player on the field. They know better than you or I.

Well we agree on your last statement. I just happen to have and it is not biased opinion the BJ gives us the best shot. Maybe one day I can tell you why I feel that. In the mean time we can be 8-4 with BJ or NS.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" /><o:p></o:p>

I believe that was the mighty "gunslinging" Nick Stephens.

Stephens obviously has catching up to do due to his injury. At this point in time I think BJ is the better of he and Crompton.....making better decisions and leadership. But our coaches know what they are doing and I have faith in them. Regarding height....I looked it up on the roster. Really no difference. BJ is 6'3 and Crompton and Stephens are 6'4. Go Vols!
