Bill Snyder/Phil Fulmer comparison

I'll never fully understand the reason for wanting to bring back Fulmer. Why? So we can be right back where we were at square one in 2008?

It's like some people forget the main reason we got rid of him in the first place.
Your preaching mostly to the choir! Besides, Snyder built their program. That's most of the reason they brought him back. Fulmer inherited his and ran it into the ground. That's why he's gone!

Ran into the ground? PLEASE. The man was here 16 years. I thought it was time to go in another direction as well. However, I now realize that was the wrong thing to do. What we all wouldn't give to back door into an SEC championship game like was done in '07 as compared to where we are today.

Fulmer had great coordinators he was never really an Xs and Os guy himself. His best characteristic is that he could make the kids feel like family and that's why so many talented guys came here. But toward the end he started focusing more on living life and enjoying it, and I can't blame him, but that was the start of the end. He stopped recruiting as hard and college recruiting never stops.

Hello he was OC for many years before he became HC. You're obviously like 17 yrs old!

Being Phil back keep Chaney bring Tee in to be groomed as OC

Let Phil go get Chavis or Steele or a BIG DC

Lets go WIN games

I might could live with this. Phil would have to have top 5-10 recruiting classes every year and I doubt that would happen. It would have to be Steele, as Chavis has never been known as a great recruiter. The whole offensive staff would have to stay in place as well.

Flame away.....

We fired a guy with 150-50 record coz we thought we could be like Bama and Florida ..11-1 teams every year type..turns out without him KY and Vandy beat our arses regularily..so lets go back to 2007..10-3 record..playing in SEC and yeah some defense..

With the right coach we can be like them.

His last 5 were are very average.

Although we did back into the SECCG somehow that one year.

We were not nationally relevant under fulmer since 2002ish?

2003 10-3 won the east
2004 10-3 won the east
2006 9-4 second in the east
2007 10-4 won the east

I'll give you five reasons:

Jimbo
Strong
Fedora
Golden
Davis

I would only consider one over the "average" Fulmer, and then only after a smokin' good interview. And next year is year five unless you are into Dooley math.

Get over your Fulmer fantasies already. Fulmer crashed and burned and that's the end of it. Let sleeping donuts lie.

150 wins vs. 50 losses, National Championship, 2 SEC Championships. Probably more qualified than any other candidate we have a shot at

Johnny majors and Vince Dooley and Lovelle Edwards are qualified as well, let's just give them a call while we are at it.

Fulmer is better than strong, gundy, and fisher. Atleast we had 10 win seasons under phil. Like him or not phil has always been a VFL. He was upset by the firing. VFL!!!!!!!! We could only be lucky to have a coach like phil. He loved UT just like all of us.

Hell, everyone has a home in Knoxville. Didn't you know that.

Even Gino at U Conn has a home in Knoxville. Maybe he will take Pat's job.

Urban Crier has a home in Knoxville. Steve Spurrier has a home in Knoxville. Also, President Obama has a home in Knoxville.

Hank Jr. has a home in Montana, I heard he may be the next governor in Montana.....

So, you're a smart ass. I really don't care and fact is, Chavis still has a home and family here.

He was getting consistently owned by the upper tier of the SEC towards the end of his tenure.

Saban, Miles, Meyer, and Spurrier all had his number.

Owned is what we are since he was fired. Owned with no hope for the future. And all you can do is oppose bringing back a 150/50 coach. Not real smart.

Fulmer did t crash and burn. He mad a mistake, hiring Clawson as OC and them our incompetent AD, Hamilton, made a bad decision ad got rid of one of the best coaches in college football history.

Ok, let's just presume everyone on here is right and Phil needs to come back (let me stifle my laughter on that). You are telling me that the Jim Haslam is going to say "I was wrong Phil come on back" (something that Brent Hubbs said would never happen) and let Phil back in. Then, once he comes back he's going to sell 18 year old kids on a championship he won in 1998 (about 14 years) and he's going to pick up on the lackadaisical recruiting that more or less sealed his fate and put us in the position we are in now. The answers I hear are "he's loyal" and "he's one of the all-time winning college football coaches" and that's going to get us back to national relevance? I respect Fulmer--he was great at the time for us...but folks he ain't coming back. It's not going to happen and any kind of hope for that is about as wishful thinking as Gruden. I'm actually glad because it forces everyone in this fan base to get over Fulmer and move on. Once someone does get here and start winning all that will probably die down. I don't even think Phil would want to come back....and thankfully it's never been seriously entertained at all. OH yeah, and that loyalty thing is BS-----for the simple fact that you never heard any program in the country express any kind of desire for Fulmer...AT ALL.

What was the reason because he didn't win the big game?

If you feel that way using the same standards do you think Richt should be fired?

Both lost their last 3 appearances in the SECCG.

Both men have similar records their last 7 years.

I use Richt as a comparison because Richt is in a similar position a Fulmer was the year before he was let go.

I don't want to get into an argument it's just a question.

Phillip looks good and refreshed. Looks trim and ready to go. I've heard from a good source that Chief will come back with him, and keep current offensive staff.
Head coach is like CEO...it's the assistants and coordinators that do all of the interaction.
No matter who we get as head coach, most will depend on who his coordinators will be.
