Bilas: why was Tennessee rated ahead of Mich St?

The SEC needs to get about 3 teams to the elite 8 and at least 2 teams to the final 4 and someone other than Kentucky from the SEC to win it all, then the SEC will get some respect. It would be great IMO if no team from the ACC made the finals.

I think Tennessee will be the only SEC team left after the Sweet 16

I’ll tell you Jay.

Tennessee lost 5 games, all against teams good enough to be in the NCAA tournament

Mich St lost at least 2 games, one at home, to a team that wasn’t worthy of a NCAA bid (Indiana)

Just because you have a law degree doesn’t make you very intelligent.
Both Indiana losses were bad but the road loss to a really bad Illinois was a real head scratcher.

Didnt Jay Bilas say during halftime of the SECTCG that he had UT as a 1 regardless of what happened against Auburn?

Edit: That was Jimmy Dykes. Get them confused sometimes lol

During his interview the committee chairman may have said that MSU was the top 2 seed, but when the committee's rankings were shown from top to bottom on ESPN, they had Tennessee at #5, MSU at 6, KY at 7 and Michigan at 8.

MSU wouldn’t be the top 2 seed playing the top 1 seed in a region further away from their nearest one. They clearly weren’t bracketed as the top 2 seed

It's never a blessing in disguise when you lose a championship. Especially when you haven't won the SEC tournament in 40 years. I'm tired of people thinking that losing is somehow is virtuous and great. I totally disagree. And just because we get an easier bracket doesn't mean we will take advantage of that either.
After reading all your sum total of 23 messages it's obvious you're a troll. You only somewhat positive post was that we should give Pruitt 5 or 6 years to get to a 7 or 8 win season....LOL

Mich state deserved to be ahead of us to be honest. Very impressed they beat Mich 3 times. Conference titles were the diffence imo

After the way we played yesterday, I can't argue his point or yours.

I don't disagree MSU should be ahead if us as a#1 seed. Then us then Gonzaga as the top #2 seeds

It is all so academic. Once you are in, you are in, and you will have to beat some good teams no matter where you are seeded and no matter where you are placed.

Bilas has really shown his bias and lack of objective logic over the past week.

Mich St’s best road or neutral site win outside of their conference was at Florida by 4. Now that was before the Stone kid got hurt. They have 3 losses to non NCAA teams

Tennessee beat Gonzaga on a neutral floor, beat Louisville on a neutral floor, who Mich St lost to. Tennessee has no losses to non-NCAA teams. Resumes aren’t close.

I do think Tennessee should be rated ahead of MSU. However, I think MSU had three starters out when they had two of those bad losses and maybe in all three. They are a very good team when healthy just like Tennessee. I think Gonzaga is the real head scratcher to me.

While I agree with some of what you stated..... if you include the “entire” body of work..... Mich ST lost to Indiana twice and lost to Illinois..... that prob is what kept them behind Tennessee.
M ST had more good wins, but Tennessee had better wins, M ST won the B10 and while Tennessee didn’t they were just one game off from winning the regular and the championship. But Tennessee did not have 3 losses to teams that are not in the tourney.
I’m sure it was close but I really believe those 3 losses must have held a bit more weight.

People say "oh it's just one game don't make it more than it is" but the fact is if Tennessee wins its games against Auburn this year they would have walked away with a share of the regular season title and the conference tourney champions and a number 1 seed and none of these foolish conversations.

Everyone in the media discounted UT this year because of the schedule. Especually the head peckerwood Bilas.

But then we handed them the truth they wanted. All the fault of the team for not taking care of business.

They just need to go and win now. Hopefully we aren't set up for a classic Rick Barnes finish to the season.

So what is a classic Rick Barnes finish?

I stated this yesterday and I will again:
In 16 years Barnes got Texas to the tourney every year but once. He got them to at least the seeet 16, 7 out of 16. He got them at least to the second round 12 times. He got them to 5 elite 8’s and a final 4.

In the 20 years before he got there they simply made the tourney just half the time. Never made a final 4, and had just 2 sweet 16’s and 2 elite 8’s (being the same years)

You take a “non basketball” school to the elite 8 almost a 3rd of the time (over a 16 year period)........ and somehow you suck as a post season coach?
