Biggest issue...Why was Greg S the best we could get?

Aaron Hernandez also was highly regarded by Urban Meyer and Belicheck.

One ranked season ever. In a down Big East that lost Miami and VT.

I wouldn't call 68-67 "producing winners."

Got as high as 7th and crapped the bed the next week vs Cincinnati.

Never coached at USF.

Stop lying about his resume.

He was never the best guy available and is a garbage bag juice coach.

My bad on the USF. Everything else, i stand by. He had a doormat program at Rutgers actually winning.

First, Schiano wasn't a 3rd rate coach. Second, I don't think anyone here, myself included, can claim to know how Currie conducted this coaching search. But some of us are hellbent on acting like we know. "It was the Haslams!" "It was Currie!" "It was all a Gruden smoke screen!" "There was never any search!" "They ignored this coach." "They never reached out to that coach." Yeah. Whole lot of that going around.

I agree with you first statement completely. Calling him a 3rd coach rate coach is being damned generous to him and bit of a slap in the fade to true 3rd rate coaches like Derek Dooley.

I think it's totally believable that Schiano was their first choice, as dumb as that sounds.

I also believe that the deterioration of SEC football is a result of firing coaches.

Is this what we are now? We can only attract 3rd rate coaches? Now how do we get a step down from that? What's going on with our program?

He wasn't the best we could get he was the most affordable in the eyes of the idiots doing the coaching search...I honestly believe they haven't hardly talked to anybody else about the job because they said Currie and schiano have been talking since before Butch was fired...He had his guy and wasn't interested in anybody else...In fact I would guarantee it...Chip Kelly went to UCLA for less than 5 million a year are you telling me that if we had offered 7 million he wouldn't have come?...They are doing what we have come to expect from Tennessee, Playing it cheap and hoping the fans buy into it for awhile until they have made plenty of money and start another search and get everyone excited again only to do the same damn thing...I am proud of our fan base for standing up to the money people and telling them we are tired of this crap!

You're being hyperbolic. And Derek Dooley was a disaster for Tennessee. Maybe you really believe that Schiano was a terrible coach, but if you do, that's your opinion. One that is not shared by, well, just about everyone else who isn't from Tennessee or isn't creating controversy to get clickthroughs.

Nope. Seeing that Florida is paying Mullen 6 mil per year, we can assume they offered Chip that, and probably would have paid more to get him. But he chose UCLA- for less money. Why? Because of what was said earlier, its toxic for coaches in the SEC. Pressure cooker jobs. Look how many are being fired. He took less money for lower expectations. That simple. Money does not guarantee a coach will accept the job. Not everyone is as greedy as many on this board are.

I don't think he was the only one, I think he was who Haslem wanted! No search firm, hanging on to butch, Currie vacating like a boss so he was the target!

Great point and a clear example of why a lot of folks on VN suffer from the Dunning–Kruger effect.
