Big O Breaks Silence..

Watching the McDonald’s AA game on ESPN right now. Some players standing out early: Hall (USC) looks legit, so does Vukosa (Uconn). Jacy Abii (ND) is a really good player, Swords (Ky), Crittendon (TX) also look good. Edwards has the physical tools obviously, her BB skillset looks very raw at this stage. Harpring (NC) might have hurt her shoulder in this game.

Dude what game are watching? The player from UConn hasn’t even scored or I missed it because she’s barely done anything. Hall has missed like 6 shots. Abii has played like a min or 2. Crittendon tripping over her own feet and traveling.
Edwards has absolutely shut down the paint defensively and is a rebounding machine. The way you talk about this kid since you claim she was a SC lean and it never happened proves you are just saying anything. There’s not a single HS player in this game that isn’t raw. Edwards and her BB skills are still 98-99% better than all of them which is why she’s the #2 player in the class. Obviously this coach for the West is a fraud or jealous of the attention Oliviyah Edwards got from the dunk contest and winning Queen on the Court in the JamFest cause it’s no way she started the game but since hasn’t played in what is a boring/raggedy all-star game.

Agree there are significant differences between how CKC system works and general fast paced pressing offenses that others have deployed.

Many are grasping at straws to find an example where it has worked in D1. It hasn't. All the ones that have worked did not sub every two minutes and they actually used the press and fast pace with actual plays and structured basketball. She doesn't.

Just ask the question using google are AI and it will tell you none of these are the same as the Grinnell system or what CKC runs.
The Grinnell system was based off Paul Westheads system. None of the fast paced systems used actual plays and several teams don’t use plays. They use a motion type of offense. The Lady Vols use a 5 out dribble drive motion. It averaged 87 ppg in its first year and dropped to 77 this past yr with all the turmoil. Oklahoma women’s team utilizes a five out motion offense, Texas women uses a dribble drive motion offense(i think), Coach Cal started dribble drive motion, Golden State and Denver Nuggets run it in the NBA with more screening added.

You didn’t open your mouth last night be quiet today. You sound ridiculous. All of these players in this game have flaws you can point out. Edwards is the most talented player in this class and she displayed that last night. She is clearly the #1 or #2 player in this class.
You are a hater if you believe any of that👇. This is an all-star with a score of 33-37. Yet all you focus on is Edwards. Be forreal.

So far, Edwards hasn’t shown me why she is the second rank player in the country. Turnovers, missed shots and lazy on defense. Looks like this year’s Lady Vols. I hope she is just taking it easy to avoid injury.

I did open my mouth last night. Guess you’re not as up to date on here as you think. One question. Why is the number 2 player being outplayed by 15 other players? I think most on here know who sounds ridiculous and that’s not me.

You can’t shut down the paint if you’re not even back to the foul line when the shot goes up.

Most don’t matter and you sound ridiculous. There’s not one player standing out in this game it’s arguably the worse played MCDAA game I’ve ever seen. Oliviyah Edwards accomplished what she set out to do and that’s completely dominate the headlines and trend all week. This game is not getting any recognition because it’s nothing more than a glorified scrimmage. So your mythical 15 players don’t exist and neither does the weak opinion which nobody with sense will even consider when it comes to Oliviyah Edwards. She is the face of girls HS basketball right now. This game started with a highlight of Big Oh in last nights dunk contest.. and the entire halftime show was just about Oliviyah Edwards on the girls side. Say what you need to in order to cope. GBO 🍊.

It looks like you're placing too much emphasis on what is just one exhibition game ....

Have you watched an NBA All-Star game in the last 10 years? If so, you haven't seen much defense played.

These same posters talking now were quiet last night when Oliviyah Edwards trended for hours. These people have issues and live in an alternate universe.
I give it 30 minutes before this same poster in this thread starts begging Oliviyah Edwards to follow a recruiting coordinator to LSU.
Man it’s comical.

These aren’t Tennessee fans on this forum. It’s clearly obvious what they do.. after all day begging this same kid to follow a recruiting coordinator to LSU.
They are mad right now that she came out and said what she did about playing at Tennessee.
It’s what they do. Make up drama that never makes it past these threads.
Oliviyah Edwards is the face of HS basketball🍊 after last nights performance.

Only Tennessee fans would come out here and blast our top recruit - who incidentally cleaned up in 1x1 and dunk contests - and talk about how unimpressive she is. Grow up people.

You’re ridiculous. Everyone knows Big O is the only glimmer of hope for next season and for Kim. I suspect the % of folks supporting Kim would have been significantly lower had she not been signed. She has the potential to change a program if it’s led by anyone with a pulse. It‘s also ridiculous that you think she’s going to stick around if things go poorly next year. Enjoy the time we have her, and hope for the best, Kim.

Not emphasizing anything. I was just making observations of her play in this game and in the scrimmage yesterday. I’m not saying she isn’t good. She just hasn’t shown it in this game. Some people think unicorns and lilac flies out of every Lady Vols arse. I’ve watched the Lady Vols for a very, very long time. I don’t say things just to beat my gums and make noise. I hope she makes Candace and the Meeks look like grade schoolers but I haven’t seen it yet.

@BowlBrother85 their 2nd comment was worse than the first. These kind of people are in an alternate universe. Judging a player with this kind of bogus assessment when they literally are still trending from McDAA week after winning the 1v1 contest and placing 2nd in the dunk contest as a female is flat out comical. Everyone that has basketball knowledge and can see has saw that Oliviyah Edwards is a superstar! They are talking about her right now on ESPN!
You can’t make it up people.. but they flat out called her a superstar on ESPN following this very game this person claims she wasn’t impressive in.
Take away the keyboards! GBO🍊.

Some Big O questions because I haven’t kept up and I’m too lazy to look at all up.

What was the level of her high school competition? What was her high school three-point shooting percentage? What was her high school free throw shooting percentage?

What was her final high school recruiting ranking?

When did big O sign her letter of intent? Was it before last season?

If a recruit wants out of their LOI does the school have to grant it? I understand there’s a stipulation the player can’t go to a school in the same league. But can the school flat out say no?

All info appreciated!

She played for Elite Sports Academy - a high-major prep level, meaning she competed on a national schedule against other Division I recruits, participated in showcase events and travel circuits, and consistently faced top-tier competition rather than typical local high school opponents.

I don't see any season stats available, but her West team lost by 20 tonight in the All-American game. Going to need a strong supporting cast of players around her and let her be a force on the inside.

And yet the recap on ESPN (UConn National TV) station highlighted Oliviyah Edwards in the postgame segment of this very game as a superstar. They literally have shown this kid as the face of HS basketball this entire weekend. You folks find stuff and try to push narratives that don’t even have a single breath of life. Lol I mean I couldn’t do that to myself it’s just me. Is she a finish product? No. Yet after this weekend she is a favorite to win National Freshmen of the Year in college at Tennessee. ESPN, adidas, Ovetime Select, SportsCenter, RareFootage, BallisLife all have been trending with Oliviyah Edwards highlights. You are lost as a fan if this is your assessment, which again on this forum it stays here and is of no consequence to the true nature of what occurred on the big stage.

Edwards looks lost on the court and quite timid. Usually last one jogging up the court with no purpose. Not a good 1st impression.

Thanks for the info. I did watch the fourth quarter of the game tonight. Big O wasn’t in long when I was watching didn’t do much, did completely brick two free throws but I don’t think you can take too much away from an All-Star game, And certainly she was a hit with the dunks, the rim swinging, her athletic ability is unquestioned.

I see that she signed her LOI in early November. So she was committed before this nightmare of a season unfolded. Must’ve been hard for her to watch, but nothing she can do now but make the best of it if she wants to stay in the SEC.

Is she a 3 pt shooter at all?

She won't be playing 1v1 for the Lady Vols next fall, or competing in slam dunk contests. She'll be playing team basketball against some of the top teams in the country. She's obviously athletic and has a lot of raw talent. The McDonald's games are usually showcases for guard play, so I wouldn't read too much into tonight's performance.

But here's what is worrisome. Edwards is going to need to be developed, her skills sharpened. And I'm not convinced that Coach Caldwell, or her nutty system, are going to facilitate Edwards bcoming the college player she has the potential to be.
