Who are your favorite wide receivers at UT since 1980?

Here's mine, but not in any particular order.

Willie Gault
Tim McGee
Alvin Haprer
Carl Pickens
Craig Faulkner
Cory Fleming
Joey Kent
Marcus Nash
Jermaine Copeland
Peerless Price
Donte Stallworth
Kelley Washington
Robert Meacham

One exception is at tight end:
Jason Witten

The majority of the WR's made their names because of the QB's at UT. There were some good one's from the 1980's to 2000. The best was Peyton Manning even though the only National Championship was in 1998 wth Tee Martin.

If you could pick 4 from the above list which ones would you take?

those are mine. That was easy.

Thomas TD Woods
I was pretty surprised to get most of the way through page three without a mention of TD!! Woods was a two-time All-SEC selection in 1988 and 1989 and completed his career as the Volunteer's single-season and career receiving leader. That's HUGE

For the 1000 x Carl Pickens. If they used the Woodson theory on Pickens he should have won the Heisman. Wr, Cb, punt returns, kick returns,..dude was it.

Pickens, Harper, Price, Kent. In that order.

I would have had Terrance Cleveland, Anthony Morgan, and Thomas Woods on that list too

If I had a list of top 15 def backs since 1980, Pickens would be on that list too. Guy was amazing.

Glad you mentioned Cory Fleming; always thought he was very underrated.

Considering I started watching TV (and thus UT) at the age of ~5, in '85 (man I'm getting old), Carl Pickens will always hold a place with me. First elite WR at UT I remember.

Odd that more of these guys didn't go on to become great at the NFL level.

And Alvin harper

And Alvin harper

LOVED me some Alvin Harper. The guy could jump like crazy. Him, Morgan, Pickens in 1989 were so fun to watch. He was doing great in Dallas, going to Tampa to be the guy was a mistake. (not financially of course, but his career kind of tailed off there)

64 posts and not one mention of Clyde Duncan. Yet mysteriously the Cardinals drafted him in the first round.

Must be too young to have ever seen Gault. Open field running for him was a straight line. He was fast enough to not need moves.

So he never had defenders in front of him? Lol. You put CP on the teams Gault played with and i guarantee you he would've done more. CP was fast and was the best EVER at UT for making the most out of a play offensively.

He was great. But he was a desperation move by Majors at Safety for half a season. He couldn't tackle a turtle. It was funny watching him close his eyes and fan at ball carriers. Made some cool interceptions back there though.

I liked Willie Gault and even had a class with him when I was a student at UT, but he was no CP. IMO, CP was the best combination of size, speed and elusive moves that has ever walked played on a college field. Heck, it took 4 or 5 defenders to corral him in open field.

Gault did have better all out speed and was a superb WR and kickoff returner.

Carl Pickens was the best WR that ever played for the Vols, though.

Saved the game against Ark with a back of the endzone interception while playing DB in the 1990 Cotton Bowl. I think both teams were ranked top-10.
