best ut reciever ever?

another good topic would be who's the best wide receiver on the team now? Justin Hunter, d'freak, d-mo, g jones, milton?

If you base it on pure athletic skill, I go with Pickens as well. From a purely emotional standpoint, I go with Joey Kent. After losing to the Crimson Crud for 8-9 years, that TD he took in on the opening play of Manning's sophmore year made my fandom.

Considering 3 of those 5 guys havent ran a collegiate route in a game (and 2 of them arent even on campus yet) I think that conclusion is fairly easy.

UT has had many great receivers. Tim McGee was great as was Carl Pickens. Larry Seivers was also very good and so was Stanley Morgan although he played a lot at tailback as well.:hi:

Pickens played at a time when the Running Game was primary and solid.
If Pickens played with Manning or any other pass-oriented offense, then his stats would be off the charts.
The Tenn Teams of the 90's and 2000's are more pass-oriented which lend to more inflated stats for the receivers. (And I am not saying the Running Game is not important, before someone tries to hijack the thread and start a ridiculous argument)

This probably has to be one of the most intelligent responses to a thread ever! Manning made Joey Kent and several receivers look great and solidified the WRs big numbers during his career!!! Manning put the ball on the money more times than not. And, he was a great coach on the field. Joey Kent had a Super Bowl Champion QB throwing to him. Please don't get me wrong. I liked Kent very much. But, Kent wasn't in the same class as Pickens and Harper!!!

Harper and Pickens had Andy Kelly, average to good arena league football player, throwing to him. And, UT did run the ball alot more under Majors than Fulmer!!! It may be argued who the best WR of all time is. But, the best all around player ever to play at UT is Pickens, no question!!!

It would have been nice to see what Washington and Meachem could have done with full careers at UT and a stellar QB. . . .that being said, Pickens gets my vote.

There are many great UT receivers so there is no right answer.

But I would go with Peerless bc he has the most TDs in a national championship game and was the MVP. Who else from UT has that on their resume???
