best ut reciever ever?

Was Nash the one who Peyton hit in the hands at the goal line, the ball bounced up, and a Gator took it back the other way, costing us the game? I am not sure, as I have tried to wipe the memory from my mind. Nash was ranked highly coming out of Oklahoma City (I think), but I have to attribute most of his success to Peyton. He never made All-American at Tennessee like guys such as Pickens, McGee, and Gault- all who had long pro careers as well (as did Stanley Morgan, Alvin Harper, Anthony Miller, Kelly Washington, even Eric Parker etc).

In my lifetime, Pickens. Unlike some people I can't comment on players before my time because you don't get a feel for how good someone is by watching highlights and looking at stats. You have to watch them every week.

I think Price is the best but i think Stallworth was really good too

Kent was a good receiver, but you have to look at who was throwing the ball to him. If Pickens had Manning as quarterback, our offense would have been unstopable.

In asking who was the best WR while at UT, you do have to factor in stats pretty heavily...it is how you measure how a player performs at their position (that isn't a QB)

Larry Seivers with those great pair of hands has etched his name in to Tennessee football history...still one of my favorite all-time Ward calls...

I don't know who was the best but my favorite is probably Tim (if he's even, he's leavin') McGee. Half the team could beat him in a footrace at practice...but he had that strange "game speed" that some football players have, and he had an amazing ability to explode in two steps. Watch his recovery of Powell's fumble in the end zone in the Sugar Bowl in slow motion. Also, watch the end of Powell's long touchdown run to see who (not Blades) makes up ground on Powell, a very fast track man. I can't recall he ever dropped a pass either, although there must have been some.

Close is Joey Kent...just because he did so much with his ability. He surprised me constantly. He just shouldn't have been able to do some of the things he did.

Great thread, and I agree with everybody about every receiver in Orange. :clapping:

ok robert meachem put up 2/3 of pickens career stats in just his junior year. But believe what you want. I made it clear from the beginning that i thought it was between price and meachem but if you thought it was someone else to feel free.

Peerless Price and Meachem are the two that don't deserve to be in the discussion. They were decent receivers. Richmond Flowers, Stanley Morgan, Willie Gault, McGee, Carl Pickens and Alvin Harper were FAR superior to both of those guys. Joey Kent and Marcus Nash were mediocre receivers, at best, that benefited from having the football permanently lodged in their face masks by Peyton Manning.

Gault, McGee, or Pickens

2nd tier would include Kent, Harper, Price, Stallworth

Meachem had one really good season.

meachem had 1 great season and his career numbers are better than any of the guys you just elevated above him. All these ifs about these others. If robert meachem stayed for his senior season he would have rewritten the record books.

No he wouldn't. He would have had some combo of Crompton and Stephens throwing it to him. How many games at WR did Pickens play?

no he wouldnt have. He would have had erik ainge throwing him the ball without swain and smith to share it with.

Wait, Meachem's senior season would have been the same as Ainge's; he'd still have been catching from Erik

so it'd have been 2007, not 2008

Am I off? My bad. Changes little in the debate. I'm a Meach fan and he still wasn't in the same league.
