Best Reason to not play Bray!

Who knows how good Bray would be If he had started earlier in the season. All the reason for not playing Bray, I say Simms progression is due only to 7 game exp. - juco of course I say they will stick with Simms until we get that 7th loss and a bowl game is out of reach. Then i'd bet Bray comes in and lights it up against Miss. I half kidding

If bray starts and he throws 4 int. Everyone on here will call him Les Miles. Look we all think we know Bray has a better up side. But the growing pains getting there can be tough, just like the new staffs growing pains

This is pointless banter. The fact is that Bray and Simms, if he is healthy, will both get some playing time this weekend. I hope for all of our sakes that one of them steps in and lights it up. Whoever that happens to be I have a feeling everyone posting on this sight will join together and root for them. Let's all cheer for our team and hope both of them step up and play great. It would be awesome to be discussing which one played the best instead of which one is the worst IMO GBO!

The longer he stays off the field, the longer the delay before the Vol "fans" start posting how bad he sucks, how they wish he had never come here, how much better Nance or Worley could/would be and so on.
Might be the most consistent UT tradition, bashing our own players until we feel better. Just ask Crompton, Ainge, Clausen, Clausen, Foster, Riggs, Martin, et al. Thank God for Manning that we didn't have message boards in his day or we would have posters on record advocating for his benching, stating he was only playing due to his family name. I can see it now "Start Todd Helton now, save the season".

Just remember, the #2 QB is always the best. Everyone always wants to see the #2 guy.

Ainge deserved everything he got.

Great post. It's strange we spell support with U and a T these days.

I agree with the original poster. But, disagree that particular reasoning is the #1 reason not to start him.

The #1 reason not to start our future star QB is that he will get killed by our paper thin and youthful OL. Let him play a lot in every game at least until he gets something broken. This will prepare him for next year. Simms has decent pocket movement and mobility, so he can survive the onslaught a little better now.

Must not have been in Neyland during Manning's freshman season. The calls for Brandon Stewart were loud and clear.

I swear I thought Stewart outplayed Manning the beginning of the season. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Manning was getting equal / more playing time than PM. Shows you what I know....

And if Bray had been the starter all season and been 2-5, we'd be reading the play Simms or Nance threads.

Bray needs to learn the offense more before he can truely show how productive he can be. You don't want him learning as he goes because then you have situations like the 4 penalties in a row, that Bray and Dooley both said were the QB's fault. Not lining ppl up correctly, Delay of game, stuff like that will lose you games if it happens to often. We don't need penalties like that to go along with our lack of offense.

I really do think Bray is the better QB, I just think he should have been studying his playbook more if he truely wanted this job, halfway through the season. Maybe he had more faith in Simms as well, and thought he wouldnt start until at least next year. Hopefully he gets through these freshman growing pains soon because we are gonna need him.

Simms is hurt now, and limited in his mobility, regardless what he tells the media. I think that if he gets hit hard enough Saturday, he will be out. Crossing my fingers that Bray is ready, I'd like to see him shine.

Go VOLS!

Without a doubt, I want the guy with the best chance to lead us to victory to play. I don't care whether it is Simms or Bray.

Dooley has said moving the chains and scoring points is the measure of a QB.

Against Alabama: Simms 10pts / Bray 0pts.

For those of you who say Simms can't get better, he's a junior, I give you Jonathan Crompton. And that's before you all remember Simms has improved week-to-week.

But the day Bray gives us a better chance to win, I want him in there. To date, we haven't seen it on the field, and from what I understand, in practice either. And after Jonathan Crompton v1.0 and 2.0, I honestly can't fault Simms much at all. He's been tough, and he's led from the front.

Until Manning clearly established that he was the better quarterback, at which point it stopped.

If Bray is the future, he should play. There's no present to worry about.
