Best Olinemen

1.Bob Suffridge
2.Bob Johnson
3.Steve DeLong
4.Antone Davis
5.Chad Clifton or Cosey Coleman
5. Chip Kell

#1, #2, and #3 are Non Debatable
I agree with Suffridge. I wish all the younger guys had the opportunity to see some film of his abilities. Chip Well was a monster to be only 6 feet tall. I helped recruit him when I like in Atlanta. He held the high school record for the shotput until 1979.

I remember him being good at UT, but his pro career surprised me. And, who was that backup lineman that played for years in GB, but hated Fulmer w a passion? Dude wasn't allowed to start, but he started in the NFL long term. Must of had serious beef back then.
We had a lot of talent for sure

O line has been a long time strength of ours.

In the gangs view who do you think are our five best linemen ever?

Certainly Darnell Wright, taken as tenth overall pick, is one.

This should be fun.

Go back as far as you want.

PS Isn't Steve Delong strictly a defensive lineman?

Went both ways his Sophomore and Junior years . Defense only in senior year(64) when he won the Outland.

In 2023 Darnel Wright had the best single season in history for Oline for the Vols.
Trey Smith sophomore year was up there too.

Aaron Sears Sr year also dominant.
Juwan James had the best career individually probably.

LT Juwan James
LG Aaron Sears
C Cosey Coleman
RG Trey Smith
RT Darnell Wright

RBJamal Lewis
Rb Cordarrelle Patterson
in pro-set (2 back)

TE Jason Witten
FL Donte Stallworth
SL Jalin Hyatt
WR Peerless Price

QB Hendon Hooker
Offense Heupel formation running schemes with Cutcliffe passing game orientation

Apologies...my orange blood began to run!

That team would play...and definitely break some scoring records.

As far as pro bowls:

Chad Clifton Green Bay (2008, 2001)

John Gordy Detroit (1964, 1965, 1966)

Dick Huffman Los Angeles Rams (1951)

Bob Johnson Cincinnati (1969)

Jack Stroud New York Giants (1956, 1958, 1961)

Scott Wells Green Bay (2012)

So, Gordy and Stroud are tied with 3 pro bowlsā€¦with Clifton trailing with only 2 pro bowls!

For reference and/or comparisonā€¦here are some of the greatest Vols of all-time:

Doug Atkins 8 Pro Bowls Chicago (1958, 1959*, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1966)

Peyton Manning 14 Pro Bowls Indianapolis (2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005* 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011); Denver(2013, 2014, 2015)

Bert Rechichar. DB 3 Pro Bowls Baltimore Colts (1956, 1957*, 1958)

Reggie White 13 Pro bowls Philadelphia (1987*, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991,1992, 1993); Green Bay (1994, 1995, 1996,1997,
1998, 1999)

Jason Witten 11 Pro Bowls Dallas (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018)

It should also be mentioned that Atkins, Manning, Rechichar, and Reggie White are the only Vols have ever earned a pro bowl MVP!

GBO!

Didnā€™t Kell suffer a bad knee injury his rookie year in NFL that ended his career. He was unbelievable strong even by todays standards but definitely in the late 60s.

I don't remember if he did or not. I do know he played 2 years in the Canadian League, 1971 and 1972.
