Best In The SEC?

making a bigger deal out of that than it actually is

I wish you were right. Unfortunately we continue to be the laughing stock of ESPN. It cant be good for recruiting. Again, I still think this staff can get it done here, but they have to step it up. No one should accept those types of mistakes over and over again. Im behind this staff, but there is no arguing the fact that we seem to have trouble keeping 11 on the field. Thats as basic as it gets IMO. Love DD and have very high expectations for Wilcox, but im not drunk on the Koolaid. I call it like I see it, good or bad. I would say its and issue when you start to give games away because of it,,, so yeah... to me its a pretty big deal.

So they are better recruiters than Nick Saban and company? Bull****. Better X's & O's coaches than Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Stever Spurrier, & Bobby Petrino? Bull****. I don't buy that for a second. I'll wait a couple years to see if that is true.

I assume this is a joke.

I totally bit on this. Was the OP a joke? My own thoughts were the top teams land the top recruiting classes. It may be stars are over-rated, but they obviously get it mostly right. I suppose the one case study would be VA Tech. They seem there or thereabouts a lot (although they haven't cleared the final hurdle) without many Top 10 classes as far as I can remember.

There's so much more to it than 4*, 5* and class recruiting rankings. How else do you explain the struggles of Florida and Texas this year? For that matter, USC as well since they were pulling so called big-time talent every year with Pete Carroll. Since we're on the subject, don't forget only one D-1 school offered Chris Johnson a scholarship and if he isn't the best back in the NFL, he's probably #2. Where's Oregon been ranked recruiting wise over the past 3-4 years? They're the best looking team I've seen week-in and week-out this year.

Gimme the intangibles with a mix of solid talent and you can keep the Rivals rankings and the accompanying speculation. Give me a team full of Al Wilsons...I'll kick your butt every Saturday and spot you a few points while I do it.

Rex... I hope the aurthur is correct, but don't you think it is a little early to make such a declaration, in maybe three or four years, this could be the case, but we are 4-2 which does not lead the national media to our door, or even the SEC media. The person who wrote that had to be a homer....IMHO

Really? What team do you follow?

What I have just read from Volwatch is a total game changer.

The man who has declared himself a scouting professional, as in actually paid to scout, the man who correctly said that Fulmers recruits were overrated and overstarred, and the man who said Kiffins crew was undeserving of its recruiting reputation, just said that DD and his staff are the best talent evaluators and X&O coaches in the SEC.
Kiffin's crew had some damn good recruiters. And I'd love to seem some brilliance as far as X&O's go.

Virginia Tech is 1-26 against AP Top 25 Teams. Virginia Tech is nothing more than a creation of a pitifully weak schedule.

I find that very hard to believe that stat is accurate. Maybe on the road or something like that.

That being said, I agree that I don't want Tennessee to be like Virginia Tech. Tech has had one legitimate national title contender in Beamer's tenure, and that was when Michael Vick was quarterback.

Based on what? His time at LaTech? This has to be a joke.

This was widely discussed prior to the Boise State/Virginia Tech game at the beginning of this season.

Virginia Tech - Stats & Info Blog - ESPN

2. Virginia Tech enters its game against No. 3 Boise State with an all-time record of 1-25 vs teams ranked in the top five of the AP poll (beat No. 2 Miami in 2003). Even worse, the Hokies are 0-21 in such games away from Blacksburg, VA. This game, of course, is being played in Landover, MD at FedEx Field.

:) Okay. That's a bad typo. I admit. Nevertheless, that record is absolutely atrocious for a team that is supposed to be an elite program.
I agree. VT gets all this love from people on here about winning with less talent, but if we're aspiring to be at VT's level, I'd rather just quit.

I would take Fulmer a thousand times over Beamer.

I like Frank Beamer but he's never going to be considered anything more than a "good" coach with a really long career.

Ouch! Thanks for some stats / data. I didn't really know, but they have been in the NC game a couple of times, and they played (and lost) to the undefeated Auburn 04 team.....

Now I'm more worried about recruiting. Great.
