Best High School Player Seen

Moore was also a RB. And a damn good one.
Yeah I know all about him. Got a birds eye view of him. Saw every game he played at South Pitt. And every practice. He was special and very under rated.

Ole Miss recruited him heavy for RB. Tn came with Sanders and my dad sat next to him at a bball game week before signing day. Tn told him they'd let him play RB.

Jack was behind me, and my career was ended in 8th grade by injury only shortly before by lack of athletic ability would have. But I did block for him that last year. I loved Jack. Never best buds or anything but was connected and I was devastated when another Knoxville guy just casually shared his death while attending Belmont. I watched him from the stands move lots of piles in HS with those ever powerful legs. Will always wonder what he might have accomplished if not for that minor shoulder surgery with a pentothal reaction.
Jack was one of the nicest guys I ever met. His 1969 game against Fulton is probably the best performance I have seen in person.

Phillip Rivers - Athens high
Salim Rasheed - Shades Valley
Jameis Winston - Hueytown
Andre Smith - Huffman
Jason Allen - Muscle Shoals
Marcel Darius - Huffman
Chad Jacskon - Hoover

I could go on and on. I worked high school football in Alabama for 21 years.

Troy Fleming
John Henderson
Bubba Miller

I played on the same middle school & JV team as Brandon Wharton @ Lipscomb in the early 90’s before he transferred to Overton but he was actually a helluva qb. Lipscomb FB was flat out awful back then & we won our first game in like 8 seasons with BW @ QB.

Originally recruited by Kevin O’Neill he of course went on to become an integral part of UT’s basketball revival under Jerry Green.

Oh you've got a heck of a list then. Were you around when Linnie Patrick was Walker county in the late 70's? There would be 20K people standing anywhere they could to see him play. I got to go to one game. We had family friends in Jasper and the oldest was the QB. He did fairly well at Bama, but had issues hold him back too. He was electric.

No I started working HSFB in 1997. I’ve heard of those big games tho. Alabama has great HSFB. It’s great to see Tennessee snagging some from Alabama high schools for 2023.

I remember Alabama's backfield of 1981-1982 of

Walter Lewis
Linnie Patrick
Paul Ott Carruth
Ricky Moore

i don't know if other HS games ever drew that many, but Linnie's senior year at Walker County, 20-23 thousand at a stadium built to hold maybe 5K was the norm. He was that good, and that exciting to watch. I've never seen anything like anywhere else in HS football in my 57 years. We would draw maybe 4-5K for Willie Gault. Not even close to Linnie's draw.
