The 60's were half a decade in the SB era, so I ruled it out of the poll.

"Most historians"?

It's hard to believe the best decade for the NFL was a decade where it ranked behind baseball, boxing, and CFB in terms of popularity.
I have a feeling that if we look up who won it all in 52, 53 and 57 . . .

Jmo but most of the rule changes
benefit the offense. At one time
your whole body had to be inside the pylon.
Now I think it's just your hand. That's
bush league to me.

The start of rules starting to ruin the game was after the 1977 season when the rules were changed that cornerbacks could only maintain contact with wide receivers within five yards of the line of scrimmage.
Mel Blount agrees. Jack Splat would also like to add this.

The explosion of instant replay has irreparably damaged the game to the point even Mike Pereia now says it has gone too far.
