Doozer, I'm not sure if you've tried it or not, but Red Pig BBQ in Johnson City (and now a new restaurant in Jonesborough) is very good with quick, almost fast food type service. I'd take it every day over Buddy's. They also have good iced tea and what they call a twice baked potato.
Bill who do you rate best BBQ in Tri-Cities?
Their spiral cut ham is the best I have had, but I put every place Bill and I have mentioned ahead of them for BBQ.
For pulled pork, I have to go with Firehouse in Johnson City. I think it's better than Pardner's and Ridgewood. Honestly, Red Pig's pulled pork is incredibly delicious, but Firehouse wins because they have better sauce.
For ribs though, Ridgewood is close. There's a place in Erwin that makes incredible ribs that beats them though, but for the life of me, I can't think of their name.
However, there is a gentleman that is a friend of my family, named Jim Bob... no i'm not making that up... that outshines any bbq I've ever had in any restaurant, pulled pork, ribs or chicken.
For sides, Pardner's wins hands down.
I have to agree that the Firehouse is good, I like their ribs too. I actually like the sliced beef at Ridgewood best. I have never been to the Red Pig, so I will have to try it. I'm not sure of where you are talking about in Erwin, but my Pastor is from there so I'll ask him.
I agree Pardners has great sides, specially the fries, enough for two people. Used to be a little place in Bristol called the Red White & Blue BBQ. It was better than any there is now.
:rock:Beef brisket is fine occasionally, but I've never had any beef ribs that compare to pork ribs.

Ain't gonna happen.
The best pork I've had was at a party where a guy roasted a whole pig in a pit overnight. I helped so I got to finger pick the rib meat right off the hog. We just stood there pulling handfuls of the best tasting pig. Then I found out the guy had won the North Carolina Pig Roasting State Championship. He is a Prof at NC State.
my brother in law is part of a hunting club in the middle of nowhere Virginia and for fundraisers they have bbqs. They make some of, if not the best grilled pork roast I've ever had. But then they ruin it with their vinegar heavy sauce. I hope the NC guy didn't do that.
