While I acknowledge there is great bar-b-que in Memphis, I'll put up the Ridgewood between Bluff City and Elizabethon against any there are. Been written up in many publications, and on TV.

Haven't you heard, there is a World Championship Bar-B-Que cooking contest here in Memphis as part of the Memphis in May Festival. All the folks you mentioned are welcome to enter the competition.

Certainly I have heard of it many years ago. People trying to run a restaurant that stays packed haven't got time to go 500 miles to be at the mercy of fickle judges.

Thank you hman. The winner of this contest is actually considered the best in the world. Be it ribs, shoulder, whole hog, brisket, and other categories. It is a world wide contest. You have to earn the right to be there. Win it, and boast for years.

Those restaurant owners haven't ever entered the contest? Or are they packed because they got recognized in a similar contest and opened up a place?

There are no similar contests, don't they know?:dance2:
Absolutely. Also if they haven't won the big contest, their customers that are packing the place don't know if they're getting the best que or not.... :whistling:

People come there from all over the country and out of the country. Hey I'm not knocking Memphis BBQ, just saying there is good BBQ besides there. This place opened up back in the 40s.

The folks that have bar-b-que eateries, and are able to brag of winning, aren't just from Memphis. This is not the point. There are many from NC, KC, Texas, Memphis, and everywhere. It is an honor, as in the ilk of an NC of BBQ, to take a trophy home in any and all categories there. The best of the best are in Memphis cooking right now. The best of the best judges and fans realize this. It's not a contest of your favorite restaurant. It is a contest of which can cook the best bbq. Mind you, it changes most every year. But, every trophy winner realizes that in their category, they are the best in the world this year. Much less if they win it all.

What she said!! broyles, I think you're missing the point that it ain't about "Memphis barbecue", it's about the contest that happens to be held in Memphis.....

Broyles, I'm not knocking you, but I wouldn't say Ridgewood stays "packed". They certainly stay busy though. However, I'd argue I can find better bbq around here than Ridgewood.

To each his own, the point I'm trying to make is that while the Memphis winners are undoutedly great cooks and the best in the contest. People who cook every day for their livliehood are not there. The absolute best BBQ may never be represented. But hey it's all good and it's late.

actually several top restaurants (and some not top) typically go there. I would be shocked if Ridgewood has never went.

Ding Dong (meant like a doorbell, not calling you a Hostess name), the point still is that the contest is held in Memphis. Not that Memphis has the best bbq. If the football NC is held in Tempe..........does that make them the best football city? Nope, it means the supposed best teams are there. Where ever they may be from. This was my point. The best of the best, world wide, are in Memphis this weekend. Maybe you should try and pay a visit to see what it is all about. People that cook for their livelihood have gone their, and won. Now they are high on the proverbial hog.

The BBQ cook-off might be the only thing that keeps the rest of the TN from giving Memphis away to Arkansas or Mississippi :)

Well ding your own dong, I said the Memphis WINNERS That means the people who win the Memphis event to spell it out where anyone can understand. :birgits_giggle: I am fully aware of what the event is about, I've wanted to attend it ever since I heard about it. Go pull some pork.

Speaking of Tri-Cities BBQ I always enjoyed, I think its, Partner's. They have some of the best BBQ Baked Beans I have ever had.

Agreed, they also make great fresh cut fries. The BBQ is close to Ridgewood, a little too sweet on the sauce. They are in Piney Flats.

Hmmm... I might have to check them out. Never heard of them. Right now, the best BBQ I've had in Knoxville metro is in Lenoir City at Leo's... Leo's would make you spit on Calhoun's or Buddy's BBQ.

Leo's is good as well. M&M is just a stand on the side of the road by the laundry mat near Bearden Middle.
