fair enough. I just think that cal has the advantage on experience this time around. and our talent isn't exaclty mountain west material despite what hatvol will lead you to believe. edit: i'm not saying Cal's talent is superior to tenn, btw, just comparable.
you're getting at the same argument that people who were shocked by the throttling of Ohio St make. Yes, many teams have comparable skill position players, but none have overall team speed like those in the Southeast (SEC or otherwise). DE, DT and LB speed is the major difference and Cal will not have addressed that by next season. Your team made our mediocre, at best, front 7 look like the Steel Curtain last year. How will that change?fair enough. Berry will strictly be a CB as will Willingham. Look for Paige and Jones being our only freshman Wr's to see PT. Eric Berry i hope will be our KR or PR man. I also would not mind giving Art Evans a chance at PR or KR. From what ive heard going around spring is that Art Evans is the real deal, and is doing good at CB.

Experience yes, but the talent IMO is greater for Cal. Thye have something like 4 or 5 freshmen, RS or true, that were huge recruits correct?
Cal's likely starters at LB and Dline and their 40 times I could find reported out of high school or jc (obviously these aren't electronically reported times so who knows how accurate they are).
OLB Felder 4.55 40
MLB Follet 4.5 40
OLB Williams (Can't find it but he played rb in high school so imagine it's not horrible, brother is DJ williams)
DE Davis 4.9 40
DL Malele 5 40 (no way he is that fast)
DL Hill 5.2 40
DE Jones 4.72 40
LB and DL looks like a draw between UT and Cal. I know Rico has been timed in the 4.51-4.57 range and Karl was a safety in HS. Mayo's bound to be slower than when he came here because of knee surgeries.

God knows how accurate those times are, I just thought it would be interesting to list them. Just found williams, rivals has williams at a 4.53 out of high school. Worrell Williams - Football Recruiting
edit: rivals also lists felder, williams, and follet all at 4 stars with felder at a 4.55 and follet at 4.59
I told you our dline was pathetic, but Cal made it look like the Steelers and regardless of your jibberish, they will not improve that drastically this year.pretty simple really. experience and talented offensive line this year compared to a completely inexperienced offensive line last year. you think our guys should have been blowing you off the ball starting 3 guys (including center) with zero experience and our two worst starters from the year before, the first game of the season? And you did have some key injuries after the cal game on defense no?
as for the ohio state game, florida wasn't 35 points better than ohio state talent wise. A big reason why they got blown out was the idiotic scheme ohio state ran on defense. And let me know when you have florida type talent on the dline. edit: and that great spead difference between the sec and the big 10 didn't seem to help you guys or auburn in the bowl games.

Using meaningless bowl games as some measure of teams is about what I would expect from a guy who continuously regales us with tales about how close teams are in the 2nd quarter. You want to evaluate teams and players, check them out in games where the outcome means something. You want to evaluate coach's ability to motivate / challenge the troops, check out the teams when games don't matter. We clearly fail on that front. TX A&M did too.
First statement: deserves no response due to absurdity.Even if your team or auburn didn't care, i certianly think their sec speed should have taken care of the game all by itself.
I guess cal shouldn't show up for the game since we know teams never change from one year to the next. Thanks for the help!
Second statement: I think the team should show up, but if I were a fan....... You talk like one year of experience will turn the oline into the late 80s Cowboys. That's as delusional as our fans awaiting Fulmer to turn some mythical corner.
I would expect improvement, without a doubt. Conceptually, improvement only describes the new relative to the original. In other words, improvement is a relative term. The basis, being where you started from, is Cal's problem. You yourself say that tenn dline stinks. So how much improvement would it really take exactly? Thinking there wont be significant improvement from the first game an offense line unit is together to the 13th is rather delusional by itself no?

I'm clearly not cut from the same analytical cloth than the likes of Cal grad. Are you kidding me? You were accepted at one of the best schools in the world (which, I might add, is leading in the Director's Cup). How could a UT fan ever compare? Maybe I should throw out of ton of stats from the web or steal ideas from talking heads. Then would I be analytical? If you say so. Some actual analysis might actually help your argument rather than broad statements like "SEC is good" and "Cal stinks."

Your, typically statistical, 'analysis' very likely hides the fact that you empirically know "jack" about sports and need stats or some stolen garbage to help you make up your mind. By the by, your stats laden crap has done little to change the fact that the SEC is good and Cal stinks.
