EB has to think about the possible lock out of the NFL in a couple years as well. He needs to get his money while he can IMO. It's just too much of a gamble fo rhim to stay. Plus, how can he stay and improve on his already #1 ranking?
Not to mention the possibility of a rookie salary cap in 2011.

I don't know why these two issues are so overlooked and glossed over by some of the Berry nuthuggers. :banghead2:

Let that man make his money, guys.

As long as he takes out a huge insurance policy I think staying is a perfectly viable option. You don't get back your senior year of college. He's going to be successful whenever he goes.

Joe Namath got his back within the past year or so...

Bill Gates still hasn't had his yet...

I could see Berry coming back. After Peyton came back and shocked the crap outta me nothing surprises me anymore. But I dont know Berry so I really dont have any expectations of what Berry might do.

after the game Berry circled Neyland shaking hands with student section and fans...does that tell you anything? Thanks EB for SOOO many awesome memories. Good luck in the NFL

On the radio today, the local guys were discussing this issue. I'm no NFL expert, but with the collective bargaining agreement coming to an end and the possibility of a lockout or rookie salary cap, they were saying that a likely $60-70 million contract could be limited to somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 million in 2011. Sounds like a no-brainer to me...as much as I hate to see him go.

If we were bringing more back and had a shot at a NC, I'd hope for him to come back. We don't, so he should go be a top 3 pick. That will do as much for UT as anything, even though by that logic, where are the QB's? You'd think with Peyton destroying in the NFL that we'd have a line of guys trying to follow him.

Not necessarily. The only connection between the mid-90s Vols teams and the current team is name of the school. There is nothing about the current team that says "See what we did for him? We can do that for you." If we want that stable to form, we need to put 3 productive QBs (or whatever position) into the NFL to start Lane's tenure.

is that possible??

I love Berry, but he has not played well the last two games. A lot can be blamed on scheme and lack of personnel, but he has uncharacteristically missed tackles, made penalties, and been out of position. I think he would enjoy a Senior year with more experienced teammates and being in position to be a play maker again. Money talks, but you only get to go to college once.

Berry basically sits there daring anyone to make a play near him. When he misses tackles, its usually because he just crossed the damn field to get there.

I want him to stay very much, but he's smarter than that. He's a top 5, maybe even top 3 pick right now. A guaranteed starter on any team, who wouldn't pick that? No, I'm afraid he's gone. All he can do next year is get himself hurt. No one is going to throw the ball at him enough for him to earn a Heisman either.

yall are gonna think im crazy but i hope he stays i look for him to go but i think it would be better for him make him more of a complete player with another year with monte

I doubt he could get any higher on the draft board than he already is. Top 5 atleast now? To much money to risk it in my opinion. I want hiim back like everyone does and I'm sure he would love to come back but the money he will make instantly is more life changing than coming back with the risk.

Also, I heard earlier about a life insurance policy. The policy probably only covers him if it is completely career ending, which means he could come back after an injury with very little of the ability he had and they wouldn't have to pay out. (Not sure if that could happen but wouldn't suprise me with insurance companies) Also 3 Million ins. policy or 15 Million signing bonus?? He has to go if its anything about the money. If the money doesn't matter to him then all I can say is (WELCOME BACK EB)

Where do we find these experienced players... the one's who are on this team (esp the LB) are not athletic enough to beat out a 5* freshman who is... Just my IMO
I think next season we will be even more in-experienced at the D and Berry should move on and collect the cash, he has done enough for UT and given his all to this team, He is already a first rounder, what more does he need to prove... He has prettty much sacrificed a sure record INT for the team and although I would love to see him stay ... It is proably not best for him... again just my IMO

Agree with the 2nd point. While Peyton will always be a selling point, Jonathan Crompton may very well be our biggest selling point for a qb now with the type of turnaround he's had under this regime.

NFL is gonna have a rookie pay scale in place by 2011. So im perty positive he will do the smart thing and not cheat himself out of $$$$.

It's time for him to go now. He has done as much as he can to help us, and I don't think we can help him get any better. He needs to take the money while it is there. We can welcome him back later to finish his degree.

How would you guys feel if he did come back and passed up the chance go to top 5 overall for sure and he winds up having a season ending injury? (Sam Bradford)

Bradford wasn't rated that high but it is still the same effect. It really hurt him.

Berry shouldn't risk it. Imo, UT isn't going to be making any run at the national title next year. They just aren't there yet. He should get the money while it is there.

I also saw this and was left with the same impression. What a class act to pass on running through the "T" with other seniors and taking away from their moment. EB is gone and who can blame him. Thanks for everything EB.

Just so he doesn't have to play for the Lions.

Sorry, had to do it.

The Lions are losing to the Browns 24-3 in the first quarter.

Eric Berry would rot there. He can't cover the entire field. Opposing teams would just avoid him and tear up the rest of the defense.
