He plays in a similar offense now at Baylor and was coached under Leach at Ms State prior. He'd be ready to go quickly.
He was recruited by Mike Leach and I saw a video of him talking of Leach's influence and how honored he was to play for him. He talked about Leach instilling "Don't overthink it. React. You're at your best when you just react."

I like the kid. I've not seen more than clips of his play but his mentality seems very grounded in The Pirate, which is a good thing. His numbers from last year are hot too.

I'm in if Heupel goes after him and that seems to be a rumor that's got a little momentum at the moment.

The Big 12 has a ton of returning, talented QBs. I don't know if Baylor's gonna let Robertson go without a fight. They aren't exactly short on cash if they really need to come up with it. ASU already fought off Phil Knight's giant piles of money to keep Leavitt from going back to Oregon. But there are like 4 or 5 more dudes that would be pretty great additions.

I think Avery Johnson to Tennessee would be pretty cool if y'all can pull that off. If you want the cheaper option, Sorsby did yeoman work for Cincinnati. Not spectacular, but he can do the job and worked with a dogshit team around him. Good physical tools. Ain't perfect, but maybe you're not looking for perfect. He might be the guy I went after from the Big 12 if we just assume Leavitt and Robertson are too well compensated/established to want to leave. Those dudes think they're going to or at least competing for the playoffs.

Bearcats were pretty bad, but they got a QB with a few years of eligibility left. Biggest question is his arm. Felt like he had more oomf but was scared to let it go. Like if you've got a pitcher than can throw 95 but not control it when he does.

Does this have any legs at all? I'm not seeing anything other than a Locked On video where he's mentioned.

I am not staying we are or were not. I just think it’s funny you said that. The staff is paid to make these decisions, I trust Heupel and the staff until they prove otherwise. So far considering where we were when he got here I am more than willing to give him his shot. GBO

It’s very possible that we could end up better at the QB position than last fall. As many have said, it’s not like Nico carried the team. In fact, the team carried Nico.

A solid fourth year player, even if more of a game manager, likely will be an upgrade.

Bradshaw was the backup, he has admitted Phil was the better QB. Phil quit football to hunt ducks and make his duck calls. He seems to have done alright for himself.
Yep. Ain’t nothing wrong with that.

Established starting QBs hit the portal for a few reasons. They're looking for more money from their current school. They want a bigger payday than they can get from their current school They want to face better competition to grow their game for the chance at the NFL. They're malcontents who are no longer welcome at their current school. With Robertson, I think he's angling for more money from Baylor, and they have the money necessary to keep him. His competition while not SEC caliber isn't like a lower division or group of 5. He's certainly not a malcontent.

Kid from K St, has a great running game, but I'm not sure he's a fit due to his passing ability. SEC defenses will be able to keep his running from doing a ton of damage and make him one dimensional. Because of that, he's not the highest on the want list for me.

Might have missed it, but Becht isn't even in the portal is he? We might be able to draw him, but never discount the attachment kids can develop to a loyal, high character type coach. That's Campbell. Might be a tough pull, but of the 3 Big 12 guys being mentioned, I think that's our best shot and likely the best fit for what we want to do/be. Will his game translate to this league? Hard to say, but he's reportedly one of those "dawg" leaders who just makes plays. Reminds me a bit of Pavia. Kind of a gun slinger with the ability to run. Tough. I think we can outbid Iowa St, too. He seems like the horse I'd put my money on unless you bet the field.....

Something tells me that we'll see Heupel do what he usually does in the portal. He'll find a kid who's going to be a good fit in the locker room who they think they can coach up. It won't be a splash name that will rattle the current room. He'll be solid enough to come in and hold the fort until our current guys are ready to seriously contend for a starting role or be a good backup if one of the two kids manage to win the starting job.

If Tennessee's head coach is not looking at all possibilities for the most competitive edge that he can get which gives him the most favorable chance at winning at a high level immediately, we should all be very concerned. I really hope Tennessee's coach does not bring in a good guy for the locker room to help smooth things over or babysit. Just my opinion. He is paid gobs of money to win at a high level and I'm confident this is his driving force

Well, I am concerned....or resigned. Just going based on what Heupel has done in the portal to date along with how he manages his on the field coaching staff. Maybe I'm just forgetful, but who was the last "splash" name we got from the portal? At any position? That's just not how Heupel works. Maybe the money isn't there? Ole Miss and OSU gets them all? Dunno, but history is a powerful teacher. I'm not expecting a big name from the portal at QB.

I care less about a splash name and more about a player who contributes. I think Heup and Company have done fairly well for themselves in that regard with portal gets.

No one outside of Tenn cared, probably, but Thornton was a big deal.
