I like Kippy. Whatever happens in the next few days, I hope he's retained in some capacity. It be jacked up for him to be brought in and let go all within a 2 month period.

I think that it will be 'strongly encouraged' that Kippy be retained.

Really? You make it seem as if Lovie is an obvious slam dunk. I'm not sure I agree.

Lovie Smith would salvage some of our recruiting class, without question. Cut would bring certain disaster, without question. The recruiting class means EVERYTHING to this program. We had alot of talent and depth problems accounted for in this class and its crumbled. Cutcliffe, no matter how good a coach, would have a snowballs chance to compete with talent that he would have.

Lovie should be in or near Knoxville by now if this is true, correct?

Anybody work at Tyson-Mcghee? LOL!
We would not be buying out his contract. The ownership wants to get out of their having to buyout and would arrange something where both sides are off the hook

Lovie Smith is the best candidate we've seriously discussed thus far. He has the credibility that could save this recruiting class, which is paramount to us being at least competitive for the next 2-3 years. What's more, the timing could actually work... Bears release and forgive any termination... thus saving themselves the $5.25 for next season... and saving us form being on the hook for a buyout.

Remember, in the NFL the GMs typically make personnel decision, so Lovie is playing the hand he was dealt. He'll have complete control in college, and you'd better believe that an African-American, former Super Bowl NFL head coach will be able to recruit.

Just saw on ESPN where David Cuttcliff is to remain at Duke after speaking with UT Officials on Thursday. Maybe something to the Lovie rumor.

Exactlly... the best players in the nation would be calling him and he won't have to take his shirt off and act like a fool to get them to sign on to be a Vol. If he wants the job, this is no-brainer.

Whittingham is the best candidate---hamilton should be in utah offering $4 mil, not in chicago with some nfl coach who is getting run out of town.

UT isn't able to buy out his 11 million dollar contract, offer him 4 million to coach, and pay Fulmer 2 million not to. This isn't a realistic option.

UT won't be buying out his contract! The committee doesn't want him in Chicago, so if he wants to go to UT then they will hold the door open for him.

With $11 million on the table why would smith leave an nfl job?

Because he will likely be fired next year, they are mostly keeping him now due to the buyout. If he is fired next year he will get his payout but after that a job is not guarenteed. If he comes to UT he can get the $4 million or whatever they are offering him for a few more years plus part of his buyout

Yeah, because fired NFL coaches never build programs back to prominence.

Lovie would be a good choice IMO. Just because a radio show in Chicago says he's not coming doesn't mean much. Look what all is being said here that is not true on our waves.
