I think he'd be a good hire if he had the right asistants. He could keep Kippy, Lance T., WM Garza, Cheney and Clegg. He'd have to cut Reaves loose, just on principles

This would be a HUGE get. Lovie is a solid coach and he would be a popular draw with recruits. I hope it happens...

Ok, guys........Just because he hasn't been successful every single year in the NFL doesn't mean he wouldn't be good on the college level. Look at Pete Carroll, Nick Saban, Steve Spurrier etc. etc. Except he has had quite a bit more success then any of those guys.

Get Big Jim on the horn...the Lovie story sounds promising. Oh, and Basilio also said it was HASLAM'S jet that was on the way to Chicago. What Jimbo wants, Jimbo gets!

It's better than cut, but I can't say that I love it if they get Lovie. I would be more than happy to give him a shot if that is all we can get, but I don't think that he is the coach that is going to be able to get it done at this time.

He could turn out to be Pete Carroll...

Or he could turn out to be Bill Callahan.

I think he's intriguing enough to be worth the risk, even compared to Cutcliffe. We all know what we're getting there. Plus, he strikes as being nowhere near a mercenary. One criticism is that I suspect that he's too much of a player's coach and appears to be too unemotional for my liking. Kinda Fulmeresque in his demeanor. Dunno how telling that may be about the total package.

I say the same with Reaves but from what I have heard he has been busting his hump working his recruits for US. You cannot help who your sister married but may end up dancing with who brought him.

If it is Lovie, were the other names smokescreens/overzealous reporters/guys trying to get a raise, or was Lovie really that far down the list. I don't necessarily know that it is a good hire, but it seems like he would have been ahead of Cut.

Dave Wannstedt is another coach that has came back to the college game and has turned Pitt into a solid program.

He'd be a big enough name to get lots of national exposure, and some decent recruits. It might take a guy like Cutcliffe a few years to rebuild his name enough to where recruits would even know who he was.

If Reaves can do the job I think we should keep him! He has stayed and I think he has a little class! He can't help his sister is married to a jerk!

Maybe he would work out in college and maybe he wouldn't, but it would at least be a forward-looking hire. A legitimate attempt to shake things up for the better. Cutcliffe would be a scared, backward-looking hire. It would be basically crying home to momma after your feelings got hurt by the mean kids on the playground.

Bill Callahan was a bad coach everywhere and still is a bad coach. I think Lovie is a pretty good coach and I think he would be really good with the recruits.

Which super bowl and for which team

The super bowl from 3 or 4 years ago. The one Peyton and the Colts won. Lovie was coaching the Bears. It was a big deal because it was going to be the first minority coach to win a super bowl no matter which team won.

Wonder if there is any connection with the Chaney interview with Chicago from earlier in the month. I'm assuming that Smith and Chaney have at least a good professional relationship (he would have been brought in to improve the passing game with Cutler) and Smith would be familiar with Kippy Brown (from his tenure with the Lions over the last several years).
