Basilio saying Fulmer/Chaney want a new QB

Nope.

It's called boundaries. There should be a division of labor. If Fulmer has any suggestions whatsoever to Pruitt, he has crossed an important line. Doing so guarantees more difficulty in hiring coaches in the future. It is Fulmer's place the run the athletic department in general and he should have absolutely no say whatsoever in any personnel decisions.

I agree. The AD getting in a coach's business in a forceful manner it could cause a major rift between them. If CJP goes to Fulmer for advice it would be different. With that said I don't know what kind of relationship they have with each other. Fulmer could say something like "Jeremy, QB play is killing us. You might want to think about giving one of the other guys a shot at it and see what happens."

If CJP sticks with JG, I think Chaney will continue to adjust his play calling and and ride it out. With that said. CJP did let Keller play some last year so he may come around and play one of the other guys. There's also rarely a season that a QB doesn't get knocked out of a game, so we can wait until that happens and one of the other's comes in.

You really think Bailey is going to come here knowing that he's going to sit an entire year watching JG, literally throw away an entire season, and get saddled with trying to salvage Pruitt's career in his sophomore season?

I don't know, he seems like he's probably smart enough not to hitch his wagon to a coach that's too stubborn to make a QB change after going 0-2 against BYU and Georgia State. I won't be surprised if another school gets him to flip once we hit our 7th loss this season.
I could see Bailey flipping to Georgia. It'd be one year at most (if he stays for his senior season) behind Fromm, right? The only other QB on their roster at the moment is a transfer who also has a year of eligibility left. Perhaps Alabama as well?

It wouldn't make sense for him to go to Florida, South Carolina, or Auburn given their current QB depth charts.

I don’t believe this for one split second. Pruitt isn’t up there to make sure JG plays QB, he’s up there to win games. And if he thought for one second one or both of the other guys gave him s chance right now to win they’d be playing.

Also, Pruitt hired Chaney to be the head coach of the offense, to run it from top to bottom. Nobody’s gonna convince me that if Chaney went to Pruitt and recommended a change that Pruitt would say “nah, we’re sticking with Jarrett”. Just don’t believe that, makes zero sense.

Finally, I wish these idiot media members would stop trying to insert Fulmer into everything in an effort to create controversy. He’s being portrayed as some evil administrator/boss trying to micro-manage everything and orchestrate his return as head coach, and there’s just no way any of that is true imho.

I agree with you. However, I could see Pruitt telling Chaney let’s give him one last shot against Chattanooga, if he doesn’t improve in that game then maybe we try a new QB. I doubt Pruitt flat out vetoed anything.

they're not making the UTC game a referendum on his career prospects at UTK.

You'd think. Then youve got those think Bailey won't come here if he benches JG and starts a freshman and he succeeds. That jps sales pitch was automatic playing time. Ah the theories. Bailey isn't dumb guys, give him some credit.

Could be a recruiting play. This season is already in the toilet, naming a new young starter puts HB in a pickle with having to unseat a young guy next season. Playing JG is a good move if he doesn’t want to jeopardize their recruiting class.

If Tennessee gets out on Chatt we’ll see what the others have. I expect it’s whats been said already the same as JG or worse

Clemson doesn’t have a great #2 QB behind Lawrence....who will be gone for sure after next season.....

Sit a year on the bench behind Lawrence...get plenty of playing time in second half’s while they’re up by 35 points....then game over after he goes to the NFL at the end of the season....

Pruitt better fix his sh#t....and quick. Because it wouldn’t be the first time that pastor Dabo swooped in an netted up a buncha guys that were headed to Tennessee but we screwed the pooch so bad they flipped.

I truly question just about everything TB says. However, If our coaches/players were prepared for the opener, then that would have been a perfect time to get the second string QB some work. Problem is, we pussy footed around and crapped the bed losing that game. I wonder if this team can take care of business against UTC early allowing some reserves to see the field.

Pruitt has never put in a backup unless JG was injured. ETSU last year, didn't give Shrout any reps, Chryst got 3 reps and managed 70 yards compared to JG's 154 only 8 completions. UTEP and Charlotte, when the offense was anemic, left JG in to piddle around and pad that QBR with a single passing TD in each game.

Pruitt I would assume is going to use it to hopefully get JGs confidence back. If he doesn’t perform in the game this week I don’t see him starting next week against Florida.

Bailey is a competitor he isn’t afraid of anything on the roster. He’ll start from day one regardless what happens this season

I'm concerned about him flipping, but I do wonder how he views Pruitt's commitment to his QB? I try to put myself in his shoes to see what I would think/feel/do, but I can't, haha.

hmmm.

siap. can't see them putting one of the freshmen in at starter, first game at the swamp against that front 7. can't see it.

what'shisname DC at UF will be licking his chops.

he might be regardless, but good grief....FR don't usually go to Florida and have coming out parties.

if you think about it though.........if JG's issues are fixable........hopefully they are........then that game provides an excellent opportunity for redemption.

if not, you go in to the bye week and maybe start thinking about alternatives for the rest of the season.....i dunno.

really hope he figures it out.

Agreed. Basilio loves him some drama.

True, although Georgia currently has no QB commit for 2020. If Fromm goes to the NFL, and the only other QB on their roster next year is a transfer, Bailey theoretically could have a chance to go there and start immediately. Surely Georgia signs a QB in 2020 though, right? They almost have to.

If he stays committed to Tennessee, not only does he walk into a s**tshow, but he has a senior starter (who is terrible) and 2 backups ahead of him on the depth chart. Although at this point almost surely Shrout or Maurer is going to transfer. Especially if Bailey stays committed.

That’s what I’m saying. I don’t think Pruitt is necessarily married to JG. But I think he has a serious tone deafness when it comes to making a new QB start his first game in the swamp. He clearly has not paid attention to TN over the past few years before he got here. Maybe he just doesn’t view FL as some road block bc he’s always coached on teams that beat them easily. But I think he’s woefully unaware of the serious mental block this team has with Florida and ESPECIALLY with playing in Gainesville

Pruitt should not be vetoing anything Chaney wants to do on offense. In fact Pruitt should not even spend a second of thought on the offense until the defense is just a good as it was wherever he was DC.

I said it in May. If you want someone to come in and be the new Helton, there are 1000 people you can put in that role. There's no reason to go get Chaney just to handicap him.

Next news headline: UT fans put out a petition to invade the practice field. They demand information regarding the quarterback controversy. Pruitt declined to comment.

Working as a manager in the corporate world, I understand boundaries. However, I also understand goals, expectations, and results.

If the decisions I make as a manager are hurting the performance of the corporation, I assure you that my Director, at the very least, will call me in for a meeting to discuss why the corporate goals and expectations are not being met, and in the course of the conversation might offer suggestions on what I could put in place to better achieve them, including personnel decisions and possible changes.

It’s my decision, I suppose, whether or not to follow his advice, but if the results don’t improve, it’s on me now, not the personnel I chose to keep in place. The end result will be me looking for another job.
