Basilio saying Fulmer/Chaney want a new QB

Even if the freshmen play absolutely terrible, I don’t think anyone on here would be mad at Pruitt for giving it a shot...
The issue is if he lets JG play all of UTC and then puts in one of the kids vs Florida or some other SEC game. The point of all these lower GIMMIE games is to tune the team and get quality time for backups. Instead JG has taken every snap the past 2 losses.

No, because the is the athletic director, not the football coach. Pruitt is the football coach. Fulmer has exactly the authority to tell Pruitt who to start as Pruitt does to tell Fulmer who to hire for Women's Golf. I know this is hard to swallow but it is just how it is and should be.
Fulmer obviously didn’t over rule Pruitt. If anything it was a suggestion. Basilio isn’t exactly a truth oracle so it may be false info.

But assuming true.... a recommendation from a former successful HC with a history of NOT giving up on players should carry a little weight. I mean if Fulmer thinks it is time to pull the plug then it must be bad

IF this is confirmed to be correct, then Pruitt can only blame himself and his stubbornness for his possible failure as the HBC of Tennessee.

Unwilling to consider all options and believing you're right and everyone else is wrong will place you in the unemployment line sooner rather than later.

I think these huge salaries and guaranteed years have made coaches more stubborn. If they get fired so what. Look at Lyle Jones, he seems to embrace sucking. He is content with an analyst job looking like a cheerleader while UT pays him a handsome salary to go away because of his failure. This bothers me.

hmmm.

siap. can't see them putting one of the freshmen in at starter, first game at the swamp against that front 7. can't see it.

what'shisname DC at UF will be licking his chops.

he might be regardless, but good grief....FR don't usually go to Florida and have coming out parties.

if you think about it though.........if JG's issues are fixable........hopefully they are........then that game provides an excellent opportunity for redemption.

if not, you go in to the bye week and maybe start thinking about alternatives for the rest of the season.....i dunno.

really hope he figures it out.
I agree with this, especially the part about the bye week. If,and I mean a big IF, they think about a QB change,it would probably happen then. JMHO tho, coaches and players usually prove me wrong.HA

Just listened to his show.
He said that his anonymous source X in the UTAD is saying:
Fulmer is extremely upset that Pruitt didn’t get us a good transfer QB for this season.
Chaney thinks our two backups have better arms and more football IQ than JG. He wants to try one but CJP vetoed.

I know many here don’t like Basilio or care what he says.
I’m just passing along what he said.

OP, you do know this is b*lls**t right?

just imagined controversy for the rednecks to contemplate next to the water cooler.

“Maybe he really does go to Gainesville and trot out a new guy to make his first start.

So you think he knows he may have a winner, but it willing to take a couple losses just to “trot” him out for a Florida game? Then this guy comes in with ZERO game experience and saves the day.

Heck if he had any inclination one of the backups was “the guy” why in the world would he not give them some experience leading up the the Florida game.

I’m not saying one of these guys shouldn’t be given a chance, I’m just saying this scenario is.........prob off just a bit.

I think he truly thought JG was good enough to win against Georgia state, BYU and now UTC and obviously he was wrong. Now he doesn’t want to deviate from his original game plan. He knows If he can beat Florida, none of these games mean anything to anyone. They’ll quickly be forgotten. Winning big games is the best eraser.

In all honesty, if JG was even average we would be 2-0 right now. I mean even just AVERAGE. Lolol.

G Tech. QBs usually don't just flip at the last minute. They are built around and they are usually vested before they ever sign the letter. The only way I see a scenario in which he flips is if this staff has a major shake up. Like CJP getting fired because our fans can't seem to get out of their own way. This is a total rebuild situation and our recruits know that but the fans don't.
Does GT still run the option? I don't see HB touching that with a 10ft pole.

Tony Basilio makes things up and y'all spend an entire thread worrying about it.

Being a coach is a different ball game than being a coordinator. Pruitt is learning on the job. I'm not a Chaney fan and not a Fulmer fan, but he would be well advised to listen to experience in that regard. Would explain why we haven't heard much out of Phil through this disaster of a start.

Pruitt is the head coach and if he is smart, he'll ask for opinions but he can't follow someone else's lead. If he feels the young guys aren't ready and playing them will hurt their confidence or if he thinks they simply can't play at this level yet, he is the man that is tasked with calling the shot.

If he decides it's best to let his OC make the call, it's still his decision. I can guarantee you Pruitt is not going to get fired and have to wonder if it was because he didn't do it his way. He learned that from Saban.

I hope Pruitt listens to Fulmer cuz things are so bad I can't see Fulmer doing any worse. That last run by BYU in OT may have been the most demoralized I have ever been as a Vol fan. The way they just pushed their way in and dominated our line....was as painful a thing as I can think of. I can't help but blame Pruitt cuz our guys are bigger and more talented...yet been dominated by Ga State and BYU. Its inexcusable. Pruitt has instilled ZERO "want to" with this team.

This wouldn't surprise me. Pruitt is in way over his head here. I think he's trying to micro manage Chaney. Look at the success Chaney has had, and then look at our play calling this year and something doesn't add up. Hopefully our next coach keep Chaney.

I don’t believe this for one split second. Pruitt isn’t up there to make sure JG plays QB, he’s up there to win games. And if he thought for one second one or both of the other guys gave him s chance right now to win they’d be playing.

Also, Pruitt hired Chaney to be the head coach of the offense, to run it from top to bottom. Nobody’s gonna convince me that if Chaney went to Pruitt and recommended a change that Pruitt would say “nah, we’re sticking with Jarrett”. Just don’t believe that, makes zero sense.

Finally, I wish these idiot media members would stop trying to insert Fulmer into everything in an effort to create controversy. He’s being portrayed as some evil administrator/boss trying to micro-manage everything and orchestrate his return as head coach, and there’s just no way any of that is true imho.

I agree with you with one exception. One of the most difficult things for a new manager to learn is to delegate and trust the delegate. The tendency to micromanage is hard to lose, and that thought that Pruitt keeps making about what people do in practice and being allowed to play keeps ringing in my head. If stories are true and if not for fate, we might never have seen Dobbs on the field due to another coach's issues with micromanagement and preconceived notions. If Pruitt lasts long enough to work through the transition to HC, he'll be fine.

The play calling is fine. The qb missing all the wide open receivers in the only problem.

Yea he isn't good enough to beat them even though he beat Auburn and Kentucky right? Even though he was up with less than a minute last game. And 300 yards on 65% wasn't enough to beat GSU either huh?

Sure.

He shouldn't have allowed that 64 yard pass with less than a minute. He is terrible.
