Bash Dooley here....

That point of view kept PF around longer than he should have been allowed.

I don't see how being subjective kept Phil around longer.

Mike Hamilton kept him around too long, not the fans that still loved their team.

I'm all for giving Dooley the boot if he doesn't get it done. But until then, and after then I will support the team.

Hamilton can't just do whatever he wants. He has to keep the people he works for happy, and the people he works for wouldn't let their hero go.

So it's the board and the boosters fault?

I still don't see how supporting your team will ever negatively affect the AD's decisions.

Fulmer should have been gone in 2005. If we addressed problems instead of ignoring them, we may have been competing for national titles by now.

this does not address my question. i asked how the post stating that we should support the vols regardless and that if the current coach isnt getting it done, go get one that will.

its very difficult to have an issue with that post, or say that it is indicative of why fulmer was around too long.

Mike Hamilton had the Thornton's of the world in his ear telling him PF was an icon and could turn it around.

The apathy of the fan base eventually made up his mind on something that should have been done 4 years previously.

Just sit around and expect things to turnaround because we are UT.

i absolutely agree that kept fulmer around too long. but i thought his post said it a little differently. i guess we read the same thing a different way

true - plus hamilton was new, had to learn the ropes, donations were still pouring in, and it takes time to drum up the support of the trustees to protect you own job

That's all good and well to let Hammy know we were tired of Fulmer. But there is absolutely no reason to not support your team because of the coach. The guys that have committed 3 or 4 years to the University you claim your allegiance to.

A common misconception around here is if someone doesn't like the coach they want the team to fail.

You fall into the mis- conceived I posted about above.

I don't understand VolNation anymore. They take your Fulmer threads down yet leave Dooley bash threads up?

During the '08 debacle, I can honestly say that I could not with good conscience hope we beat Bama and some of those teams later in that year because that would have just given Hamilton a chance to keep Fulmer and pushed the program farther down the drain.

Good thing you don't hold yourself to your own self-imposed belittling people rule.

Ive been arguing with you for the last hour. Not once have I been rude or condescending. I dont even treat Gator fans like that. That guy has responded to exactly one post that Ive made and took that opportunity to imply that I knew nothing about college football. I dont agree with anything that youve said all day, but I wouldnt be so shortsighted to imply that youre ignorant of the subject.

Supporting the university consists of many things. Accepting failure is not one of them.

I have little doubt that our fan base would have asked to give Ron Zook more time after 2004, or to give Shula more time after 2006.

Anyway, that was never my point in the first place.

My point was I don't understand looking at a team objectively when you claim they're your favorite team.

I'm all for booting the coach when he is not doing well, but not supporting the team is not the way to show your dissatisfaction.

I never said that you didn't like the coach, but I remember a lot of people not supporting the program at all anymore because of Fulmer.

Most people still supported the program. Like me, I was hoping we would lose to get fat ass out of there, but I still attended the games to support the players. Lots of the people that quit showing up to games were doing so to instigate a change because they supported the program and knew it was going in the crapper.

Get off the high horse. Editing out telling another poster to "GFY" while talking about self-constraint is epic.

It's nice not having a sheep's mentality.

If I start touting Gene Chizik, then everyone on here feel free to call me anything you like because I would deserve it.
