BART Harris walk on

He's a walk on. He isn't being added as the potential starter but to shore up depth.

I'm assuming that at least one of the 3 QBs will not be coming back. I believe Dormady has a redshirt and could sit out abd play his senior year. Or, he may be on pace to graduate early.

So....they were walk-ons? Thanks for the history lesson though.

2 of the 4 were walk ons.

point is these examples of "walk ons" are usually not what people make them out to be. there is usually a good reason why schools skipped on offering like grades, character concerns, small school or played a different position in HS. even with Mayfield plenty of coaches thought he was a bit undersized and was skipped over for more prototypical QBs - still he wasn't a complete unknown and had D1 offers.

The idea that a kid could walk on and even see the playing field is just crazy...that he could actually start, win a Heisman and have his team in the playoffs - well, that's just dreaming...

So, we just trash whoever you say it's OK to trash?

Cool.

Josh Allen isn't coming to UT so who cares if I trash him? And have you seen Allen play or his stats? He is garbage. All NFL draftnik hype. Inaccurate and shaky under pressure.

I don't think we should bash our walkon. He is part of the family now.

I looked him up on 247, does he really have offers from all of those schools? NC, NE, OK St, etc.....

Not exactly irrelevant. Just refuting that Harris sucks because he's a WO and not a 5*. Using BM, who had possibly worse offers than BH, as an example of what a WO can do in the right system and opportunity.

I think Luke Falk was originally a walk on at Wazzou and has been doing great these past 2 seasons.

edit: was a walk-on. led the nation in passing yds. per game at 380 and 2nd in comp.% at 69.45 as well as all pac 12 1st team selection in 2015. As of now with one bowl game left Falk has set all kinds of Pac-12 passing records.
Go Bart !!!

Have you looked at his videos? Guy has a zip cannon for an arm. :good!: Don’t forget, you don’t have Butch Jones anymore, you have a staff that is coming in to develop quarterbacks now..

You just gave me an idea for a CBJ-style exercise at the Orange and White game. QB competition where a random fan is highlighted on camera and the QBs have to throw a tee shirt to them.

Whoa now sir. Please don’t let facts get in the way of all these negative vol fans opinions. After top 5 classes multiple years, and watching our team last year, you turds should realize that those stars aren’t everything. Heart and program fit play a large role. You have a lot of HS kids out there who may play for a podunk HS and barely get noticed. You have many 5 stars that shat the bed. Walk-on stars definitely aren’t the norm but it does happen. Instead of talking trash we should let it play out.

In case you guys didn’t notice we didn’t have any QBs lighting the world on fire last year.

Not true. He was at TT and left them to walk on at Oklahoma. He just enrolled at Oklahoma and then walked on. The rest is history.

He was also a walk-on at TT. I am thinking that's what the poster may have been referring to. He had offers from teams like FAU interestingly enough when he walked on at TT.

I believe he was a walk on at Texas Tech as well.

Edit: and the idiots would not give him a scholarship after he won the starting job.

Baker Mayfield was a walk on

You completely missed his point(and it's been stated like 20 times, lol). Just because BM was a Heisman winner, doesn't mean all walk-ons are Heisman winners or even successful quarterbacks for that matter.

BM is the extremely rare exception, not the rule. So, I really don't understand why everyone keeps bringing him up as some sort of "proof" that all walk-ons are successful.

Tbh, I think JG will get the job done under the right coaching staff.

It's fair to examine the offers that he had when he walked on at TT right?

He had offers pulled because of his dad and other backed off. He wasn't an unknown walk-on. People knew he had the talent and didn't want the headache. Why do people keep trying to leave out this part of the Mayfield "Walk-on" story?

Baker Mayfield says TCU strung him along. TCU’s coach says Mayfield’s dad is a pain - SBNation.com

So unless this guy has a crazy dad making big schools back off we need to chill with the comparisons.

I think the point was also that not all scholarship QB's are Baker Mayfields either. Or Jalen Hurts'. Or Josh Rosens'. Either a QB has IT or they don't. regardless of being a walk-on or a scholly.A walk on could have been under the radar for various reasons. Presumed talent only being one of them.
