Barnett's Stock

no, he's not a stand up OLB/DE. he's a 4-3 DE. he's not big enough to play on the 3 man front, and not athletic enough to play outside OLB in a 3-4. could he develop in to a 3 down DL? maybe, if you want a project. if you try to make him in a 3-4 OLB, you're taking away what he does best.

hes perfect as a 4-3 DE.

So, you are saying Nick Perry is better than Derek Barnett? I questioned why the heck Butch and Shoop were using a DE to cover RBs on short passing routes. Because Barnett can, and to show he could was part of it. And he might do that better standing up as a OLB.

Before I lock him in to a 4-3 DE spot, I will wait until the combine and try to find out who interviews him. Not athletic enough for that 3-4 spot? I think you are way off on that. He moves well enough to make it happen.

Barnett has shown enough with us that makes it an option. Guess we will find out soon enough.

So Kiper has Wilson and Tabor in the first round and Dobbs shredded the UF secondary. Lol.

Anyway, I really dont see how Garret gets the #1 pick. I can see Allen but Barnett should be ahead of Garret. But just like DBs entire college career, he is being overlooked and disrespected.

Typical NFL. They spend months blowing smoke up these kids to get them to declare. Then once the NFL gets them declared, they trash the guy, even accusing them of drug use, to devalue the player. NFL teams all wants the talents as cheap as they can get it. If early first rounders fall to late 1st, it helps the strong teams. I suspect most of DBs detractors are in late first round.

Garrett to the Browns at 1? With Jimmy Haslam in the room? I might believe one of the D4H predictions or opinions before that one.

Barnett and Beasley would give opposing quarterbacks nightmares but I doubt Barnett falls to the Falcons at 31 unless Dimitroff pulls off another Julio Jones type trade.

It's funny that if Barnett was 6'7 and had exactly the same stats that he has now the talk would be how he would go #1.

Saints fans on Nola.com were coveting Barnett as their top pick. I have no idea how likely, but they do respect him.
