I asked about the comments Oliver made. I don't care that basilio is still hurting your feelings. If I wanted to listen I would listen. You keep us all informed.

All you've done here is legitimize Tony's bellyaching though.

Barnes doesn't recruit well and he apparently is getting exactly who he wants which isn't 4 and 5 star guys and its on purpose. And you're cool with that.

We don't have enough talent on the roster and the main reason for it is because we haven't targeted the highly ranked guys enough and haven't worked hard enough on the recruiting trail.

The main reason is because the program was a dumpster fire. Extreme coaching turnover. Instability with the roster. Small odds of making the NCAAT. Undetermined trouble with the NCAA. Lack of leadership in the AD and the school administration. Fan base creating a hostile petition and being accused of being racist. Not really a formula for success. It's kind of amazing that TN didn't sink to the 5-22 Wade territory.

How do you know they haven't worked hard enough on the recruiting trail? There has to be something to sell first.

So which is it? Barnes is targeting these 3* guys with upside who will be here for 4 years or we can't get the 4* guys cause we ran off a bad coach and had to fire a guy after 1 year?

It doesn't have to be one or the other. We can't get 4* because of the coaching situation, so Barnes had to target the 3*. And now that he's built a foundation, he can target the 4/5*, which is what he's doing.

I'm sorry. I'm just not buying that we can't land a few guys out of the 300-400 guys that have been available during his tenure.

Especially with a coach who's coached as much talent as Rick Barnes.

Excuse making is what it is.

Your last paragraph is total nonsense. He wants a certain profile, not a certain number of stars. 4 and 5 stars aren't purposely being excluded.

From an unbiased perspective, given all the **** that's happened at this university/athletic department/program, would you have come here? I sure as hell wouldn't have. Now, today, I'd give it a better look. But 2 years ago there's no way in hell I would've.

Reality is we haven't gotten the better players cause we aren't going after them.

Now we finally targeted a 4* as our priority and whiffed. Regrouped and now we are going after Simmons.

I did acknowledge him earlier.

He is a unique case though. Not gonna take anything away from Barnes on that one but he wasn't even on the radar until after most teams had filled up. Gotta keep it real.

Ok, and clearly the guys he's brought in can play with everyone on the schedule. Doesn't mean they are working hard enough/mentally tough enough, but the 3* are capable of winning games.

Both. The pool of 4s has been the sloppy seconds because of the problems in the program. As the program rises from tge ashes the chances of landing the 4s that match the desired profile increase. They've had clearly better options in the last couple of cycles.

I'm not obsessed with star rankings like you are. Is it just the on court skills that go into all of the ranking service assessments? Is character considered? What about upside? Some high school seniors are 19 year olds. Others are 17 year olds. Point being, a 17 year old might be lower rated than a 19 year old, but the 19 year old is more likely to be about the same at 20 while a 17 year old could be far better at 20. And I'm really speaking of maturity rather than chronological age. Is the biological father of an immature 3 star a mofo-ing bad ass? That's an evaluation that's not going to go into a fan-boy star rating that's published for the amusement of non-professionals.

So far nothing has happened to Pearl or Auburn, and it’s not looking like there will be.

Also Howland, Johnson, and the mentioned Martin are all getting 4 and 5s to come to places that are hardly basketball hotbeds, and before he was canned Jones was getting recruits to LSU and he couldn’t coach his way out of a paper bag. I doubt Wade is going to have many problems recruiting.

Hell may have frozen over but I’m starting to be in the same page as Ziti.
