Bang Shootie conversation

46 years living in Memphis...
Memphis is no joke Chatt is usually just a hair behind Memphis on the murder rate (look her up)......we're just kinda a smaller Memphis with mtns and better scenery, we're consistantly in the hunt in the top 20. (not proud of that) I also have in fact had my bedroom shot up with AR fire from a neighbor with me in it.....so.... i mean it's not just a number to me. there's still one bullet in the mattress I think that passed 2-3 inches below my noggin. Being downrange in your own home with wife and kid there hits different.

Spoke to a good friend who was Mi assigned to S.f. and had seen alot of action right after it happened. Mainly cause i was trying to deal with the unable to "turn off" for about a week......just too much stimulas. I'd hear every convo in a room at once, notice every single detail, and notice ever freaking muscle twitch in the room around me, it was like I was living in hyper technocolor, and could not turn it off. I gained a new respect for him, as he'd been through that every other week with his unit, but he also said "Man i can't imagine that happening in my home with my family though, i never been through that". It deff hits different. Cops didn't get here for 45 min, even though alarm will send them here in 2 minutes ..they purposely took their time and "staged" after three 911 calls So in that time the only defense we had as he shot at our home with multiple guns, was my rifle and I armed my wife, we had retreated to a safe place and that's all I'll say about that, and just prepared for anyone messing with the door who was gonna get ventilated. True story. So I deffinately do take it seriously....as a swat buddy said, "by the time we get there we're just there to clean up, you're responsible for saving yourself" Not a lesson I will ever forget. Not a hypothetical situation in this house.

As of 2025, Memphis recorded a murder rate of 27.1 per 100,000 people, placing it ninth on the list of the deadliest cities in the U.S., while Chattanooga's murder rate is reported at 38 homicides annually, translating to a rate of approximately 21.0 per 100,000 people based on its population. If you agregate the years though I think I saw memphis was number one in nation at 40, and we were like 29. I don't remember where stats were from. BUt I think alot of cities don't report alot of murders.

Chatt is largely a nice city with a few shithole areas. Memphis is largely a shithole city with a few nice areas.....

I dunno my sister lived out there awhile, and there were some extremely nice areas.....but I will agree that chatt is more concentrated to certain areas. But regardless I got to experience it in my home, and I did not even know the dude.

I met good people from Memphis while attending UT. Two have been friends since and one recently reconnected with me.

except the MP5....
I bought a Mp5 Knockoff! I get excited to work on it, and love on it, upgrade to H&K parts as it comes up. I love the Mp5 platform. It's also got particular signifcance to me and my fam, and I dearly love it.......but it's not my choice in a crisis. It's maybe my fav current toy at range however. I can love something and still discuss it's flaws....and the ejector pin on mp5 and need for careful maintence (bolt gap issues etc) is one. But I mean it's a 60-70's weapon based on the same system as the cetme and G3, and grand son of the stgh 45(m)......I love everything about that. I also fondle it the most among my firearms now.....

So, the two of you are telling me to get the wife a 9mm… 🤪
A carbine of some sort is an excellent choice, and a 9mm carbine right now has alot of pluses because ammo is fairly cheap, which means more practice, and bonded ammo is making the round more capable then it used to be. But I have learned many times over never to tell a woman she should get type of a weapon cause she's a woman. Just show em things you think they'd be good with or like and let them decide. If you get a carbine, wether it's a kel-tec, the ruger or another (mpx is my fav if cost is not a factor), ones that accept the Glock mags are best in my opinion. I don't own a single glock pistol, but I have alot of glock mags for other platforms that use them, the "fun stick" is just 6teh best dam 30+ mag, the best damn mags I have dealt with. I prob should pick up a glock two go with all my glock mags.....but I'm more of a Sig DA/SA guy. My mother in-law was/is a strictly 357 gal.. Go with what you love.

Also I nit pick stuff I love more then stuff I dislike....if I dislike it I just won't even talk about it.

Mine shoots a full frame Sig Tac Ops with 19 round mags. She can drive tacks with it.

Why you asking him?
When I received the gun from my cousin, I took it to a shop for the gunsmith (purportedly good with older guns) to clean it and give me his opinion on its condition/value. The gunsmith wasn’t there the day I dropped it off, nor the day I picked it up. When the gun was returned to me, there was a dent in the left barrel that wasn’t there before. I complained, but the shop owner claimed the dent had to have been there when I brought it in (it wasn’t). I showed him the paperwork that had no note of existing damage. He had both the 1900 and my Hunter Arms 12 gauge and stated flatly that I could pay the bill, or he would keep both my guns as compensation for services rendered.

So, I have a 100+ year old Remington 1900 with damask barrels of unknown value. I wouldn’t use it, even if it didn’t have a dent in the left barrel. If it’s worth anything, it would be to a collector. I’m not a collector. Given that the gun once belonged to my great grandfather, I’d rather place it with a collector than turn it in to be melted down at a law enforcement gun round up.

When I first lamented the gun being damaged at the shop, I asked if Slice would offer me $100 for it. He said sure.

Bottom line, I’d like the gun to go to someone who would value owning it, work the dent out, and offer me something in exchange. I thought Slice might be the guy.

OK, but, given my prior exchange with Slice, I’d like his reply.
I’d meet you for lunch anytime you are in the area.
The gun is irrelevant to that. I stand by what I said earlier.

I love scatter guns…. Especially old ones.
But yankee is one of those guys too

No I didn’t catch any fish today.
The guy with me caught several.

Clearly I’m a better guide than fisherman
