Bailey took every snap during scrimmage

There might be, but it's an odd situation. Maurer missed a good bit of time due to injury, Bailey didn't get a lot of reps in practice and spent some time in quarantine, and Shrout makes the coaches nervous that he's going to toss a pick because he's thrown a lot of them in practice...although the word on him is that he's made a ton of progress this year and gotten the bulk of the 2nd team reps with Maurer and Bailey missing time. All the QBs are healthy now, so it should be interesting to see how it shakes out and if they start to really up the reps for one of them to get them ready.

JG had three turnovers against Georgia and this is not a concern? I must be missing something...

Not sure where all the consternation comes from ref JG, if UT had a better option available I’m pretty sure we would have seen it by now. Once the streak was broken it flipped immediately back to JG....what I saw was an OL full of 5 and 4 stars, mostly very experienced, that were dominated. When that happens, few QB’s give their best performance. The OL was ranked top 3 in SEC by most, top 1-2 by some. Not yet. OL should have at least held their own based upon pedigree, never happened.

Man this is such a weird comment. Nobody knows how good any of these kids will perform under the bright lights until they’re given an opportunity. jg has been given 1500 opportunities. Give someone else a chance

I don't even see HB as the next most reasonable option. Shrout was very green coming in but was praised for having an NFL caliber arm. Maurer was a 3* who played on a very bad team but performed well at the Elite 11 camp. Those guys aren't bums.

I wonder if Pruitt isn't just trying to assure that all three guys are there to compete in March. If he sticks one of them in the game even for mop up... that could lead to one or even two of them leaving. Not sure otherwise why you don't give you back up a few throws vs Mizzou and UGA at the end.

Trying to read between the lines, I think Maurer is still not 100%. Very weird how they didn't even play him during the scrimmage on Sunday. Feels like they are trying to protect him.

As for Bailey, Covid destroyed his shot at starting. That's why they had him taking all the snaps during the scrimmage; trying to make up for the "lost offseason". But difficult to start as a Freshman QB in the SEC when you barely have an offseason.

So effectively, I think we only have 2 QBs right now: JG and Shrout. Though, Shrout should've played in the 4th Quarter IMO.

Glad Bailey got those reps - hopefully we can put the cats away early and he can get some game time reps. Like it’s been mentioned in other threads, COVID killed his chance to compete for the QB job in August. But any game time reps will help - just don’t want to throw him in against a killer D for his first experience

To me this means he let Bailey get the snaps because he's had the least amount of practice among the qb's. Nothing more, nothing less. The kid missed spring practice and majority of fall camp. It doesn't hurt JG, Maurer, or Shrout. JG has 5yrs of practicing and 4yrs of playing experience. Shrout has 1yr on scout team, 2yrs of practice and some game experience. Maurer has 1yr of practice and 4 games of experience. I may be off on some of that, but you get the gist.

Interestingly, the freshman QB was the first player that Pruitt mentioned when discussing the Sunday scrimmage.
“You know, it was really good. I think we took like 49 snaps and Harrison took every one of them. For him, that was really good because, based on the way fall camp went, he didn’t get a lot of live action. We just didn’t have enough plays for him to get in there and get going.

But then there is this also

“Jarrett’s our quarterback. He gives us the best opportunity to have success
,” the Tennessee coach said during his Monday press conference

Jeremy Pruitt shares details of Tennessee’s Sunday scrimmage, says freshman QB Harrison Bailey took every snap
Sigh...

Funny how JG’s mistakes are viewed differently than Maurer or Shrout.

Or HB ain’t happy. Lots of ways to view it.

That scrimmage was strictly for new guys that haven’t had an opportunity to take many reps- per Pruitt. That’s why HB took all the snaps.

So the QB position is not open for competition.

Must be very depressing being a back up QB now, except for maybe HB........
That’s pretty much what I heard. And the fact that Pruitt would roll him back out there after the fumble scoop and score is the epitome of stubbornness. If he is you guy, you have nothing to gain. If he gets hurt in a blowout loss? Don’t want a an controversy. Put in the back up and have him hand off every play.

I can’t imagine ending the game on a sack was very encouraging.

There are major deficiencies in the Oline coaching and the OC. No way a less talented Ole Miss team should make scoring against Bama look pedestrian.

Of course he wouldn't be happy. He nor anyone else could've predicted covid and the cancellation of spring camp. He was also out a lot during fall camp cause of quarantine due to contact tracing. Are you suggesting he's not happy for other reasons?

Oh well. Yet another subpar offensive game coming up where the defense will have to play almost lights out to win. I know Maurer has had some off the field personal issues but what about Shrout? I remember reading he was doing good in the limited practices we had and firmly earned the #2 spot. If I were him and Maurer, I would be transferring. It seems we have a stubborn coaching staff that is resistent to change.

I don't see how BM and Shrout aren't asking for directions to the portal. Especially Shrout. That kid must love being at UT.

Where else would they go and succeed? Juco? How many of those get drafted? Sure, you could make an argument and use Stetson Bennett for example, but he is the exception, not the rule. Pick your poison. Do you transfer with those odds or stay put riding the bench at a p5 program? Neither one of them were highly recruited out of high school. Maybe they know a future in the NFL just isn't in the cards.

I think that's a given. Other teams can recruit, develop, and roll with a freshman if need be. Well, we f'n "need be" right now but it won't happen.

In the SEC, who is rolling with a freshman QB? Bazelak at Mizzou is a redshirt freshman, by the way. Just doesn't happen very often.

Shrout is probably the only one that should or could be capable.
