And,,,,,this is why I love Volnation! Only on here is there a poll about a player who hasn't even practiced yet being compared to one of the greatest in all of college football.

Anything is possible but if HB turns out half as good as Manning, we will be in a good spot.

yes he did as you have been proven wrong several times...the Orange Bowl was the Bowl Alliance NC game...just because you want to minimize it, doesn't mean it's not factual

It absolutely was not a NC appearance for UT. The Vols could have won if things fell their way, but that does not make it a NC appearance. LSU/Clemson -- NC. To be in a NC you have to be promised a title for the win.

As a side (may have said this before), but the '97 game against Nebraska may be my most painful Tennessee loss. I talked a lot of smack to Gator fans after Nebraska blew them out. I got some major comeuppance after that pathetic showing.

Bowl Alliance - Wikipedia

Again, you are proven wrong. I was there in person, I still have Bowl Alliance National Championship items from the game.

What are you attempting to prove with this? Nobody outside you and a small spectrum of delusiVOLSs having played for the NC in 1997. If we had beat the brakes off of Nebraska, Michigan would just have been the outright champion. Be realistic

Wikipedia has a lot of errors in their information. Fact is, we would not have been NCAA champs even if we had won that night. However, it was one of the games I wanted more than most others we have ever lost.

might want to check the Bowl Alliance contract RE: the coaches poll, but then again you probably were just too young to know then

I think HB will be a good one but even putting him in the conversation with Peyton right now or ever is crazy. HB will carve his own path here hopefully but Peyton is in a league of his own and there won't be another one

Do you think Bailey will be better than Manning?
Are you serious, Manning one of the Greatest College and Pro football Quarterbacks of all time, the boy doesn't look like he even shaves yet and you are asking this question' this is a joke just hope he can learn the system and push JG for playing time i hope you know JG will be the starter game 1 do you know what it takes to get a freshmen QB ready to play in the SEC.

THIS.

Why don't we crush this kid with unreal expectations before he can even toss a few balls around the practice field.
Maybe we should let him be Harrison Bailey first, and four or five years from now we can worry about his place in the Vol history books.

Checked. We did not play in a NC game in 1997

Except that we did, the Bowl Alliance, the NCAA, Tennessee, the SEC, the Orange Bowl, general merchandising, the coaches poll and literally everyone outside of Michigan disagrees with you.
Facts are a wonderful item to use:

A Bowl Alliance Poll was formed by adding together the point totals from AP Poll and Coaches' Poll. The top two ranked teams from the Alliance conferences met in the Bowl Alliance national championship game, which rotated between the three Alliance bowls and was always held on January 2. Whoever won that game was guaranteed to be declared national champion at least in the Coaches' Poll, as they were locked into naming whoever won as their national champion. The AP Poll retained its autonomy.

lol no... is it possible that he puts up better collegiate numbers than Peyton? Maybe. But he will not actually be better than Peyton.

Unpopular opinion on this site but it's TRUE none the less:

Manning is/was NOT a good thing for tennessee bc all you dumba** mouthbreathers on here tey to turn every qb into the next manning.
He had alot of good traits and posted great numbers.
But hes done as of 1997.
Let it be and enjoy the new guys for what they are - themselves.
Move tf on.
But its classic tennessee to wallow in the past I atead of enjoy present and look forward to future
