Bailey is the future.

We'll see. Either way I'm going to bump this thread next September and either eat crow or......well you know....also, you know Maurer is a true freshman who we are banking the rest of our season on...right? AND if he were the starter from day 1 we are probably 6-5 right now. Maybe even 7-5. Dont underestimate freshmen.

Maurer has completed less than 50% of his passes with 2 TDs and 5 INTs.. outside of 1 half of football he's been massively overrated on this board. He gave us a spark for the 1st half of the UGA game, that's it..

I think it's also pretty clear that Maurer is hurt worse than advertised.
I think he may be done. Likely too many hits to the head before he got here and the two in two weeks. May be too much of a liability.

Troy Fleming said that he thinks Maurer starts next week. Not sure if he is privy to anything

I watched him warm up last week and he's bouncing around like no guy I've ever seen on concussion protocol. I think they're just being careful, but I'm definitely not a Dr.

This game confirms it for me. The staff clearly doesn't trust JT. Maurer is pretty good but cannot stay healthy. JG is JG. Good enough to get by, not good enough to beat good teams. I expect Harrison Bailey to come in and start as a true freshman and judging by the QB rotation tonight and last week, this staff does too. The announcers said Pruitt told them in the pre game meetings that JG is the best QB on the roster BY FAR. Either he was lying or.....Bailey will be the starter next year.
Expect all you don't know how he will perform. Bailey may be the next coming of Peyton Manning or he may be like the #1 HS QB in the country SI covered for a year that went to ND and was a complete bust. Probably somewhere in between. You never know. To expect him to start his 1st game is not very realistic. Peyton may not have seen the field his FR year had Colquitt not gone down in game 1. BTW, we finished 8-4 with a legend at QB that year! I would wager we finish 8-4 or better even if JG starts at QB next year.

Best by far---when they put Maurer on the field it showed me not to drink too much Pruitt cool aide. The time Maurer stepped onto the field the whole team changed. Maurer plays really well and JT would too if give half a chance but Pruitt doesn't intend for that to be the case. It was really disheartening tonight after hoping all week we were going to get to see Maurer and JT lite up the UAB defense. I don't think Pruitt is being honest with the fans and after awhile those things catch up with you if you continue being less than truthful.

If Pruitt really thinks jg is by far the best qb on the roster he is very very poor at evaluating qb's. And if he thinks this; jg will be the starter again next year.in most everyone with the exception of Pruitt jg should be number 3 on the roster.

If jg remains at qb look for the same thing we have seen from jg. About 5 wins

It appears he is being truthful. I think Pruitt thinks jg is the best. I dont understand why he thinks that. But based on who he wants to play being jg, I think he really believes this. I am afraid he is going to lose 2 really good qb's if he continues to play jg as well as lose the team because jg is very disrespectful to the coaches, by not listening to them. And jg may cost Pruitt his job if he plays him next yr with no bowl game again. Which will really hurt his recruiting. If maurer had started the yr we may have been undefeated this yr. We gave ga a good game for bout 3 it's till maurer got hurt. And also bama and with game expierence maurer would have been much better at the start of sec play.

Shrout is also a deep bomb waiting to happen as evident last week.
Yes probably throw some int. But will put up more points than jg ever thought of.will makes throws jg cant make. I rather score 40 points and have 2 int that go in for a score than 21 points which is about jg average and still throw some int as well.

Hey GAVOL did it appear to you a little of that was gone tonight. I'll have to watch it again to see Maurer's reactions.

I am going to wait until Bailey signs before I make any conclusions. And with the obvious pain Guarantano was in tonight? I will give him somewhat of a pass...for this game. But there is no way in any year I can predict who the starter in September of next year will be in November of this year.

I think Maurer starts next week they are just resting him as a precaution tonite

Depends on what the neurologist says. I have no inside knowledge, but if he is practicing at all? I am sure he is no contact right now. 2 significant concussions a week apart? Nowadays, the protocol is tighter than ever before. Don't be surprised if he sits next week too.

He's not nearly that raw. He's much more polished than anything on the roster.

Unbelievable the luck he has had...

I think he will have to play this year.

Then needs to bulk up and get ready to take on Bailey in the Spring.
great minds think alike because everything is leading to this
If this is true then Pruitt would of never played Maurer and started him against Ga Miss St and Bama. He pulled JG because he is not good at all. With Maurer the offense had a pulse , with JG its flat lined. The OL seems to play better with Maurer than with JG. But Pruitt is not going to throw JG under the bus, I dont guess he would. Anybody that watched Tn play ,especially another SEC teams fan, they want JG to play period. So its not just Tn fans that knows he sucks
yes he would have. it put fans in seats. pruitt is recruiting right now while winning games he can defensively. its a masterpiece!

If you want the truth, the answer is 0. He was held out by coaches decision after the hit vs UGA. He was held out by doctor decision vs MSU because of the nature of the fall. And it was another coaches decision vs Alabama. HE wanted back in after all 3. It should be growing increasingly clear that Pruitt is using each and every opportunity he can get to use JG.
So you're going with a conspiracy theory that Maurer has been healthy this whole time. Gotcha.

You're only setting yourself up for disappointment expecting a true freshman to come in and win the job
Yes, if Jaratano stays. He will be the starter next year. Imo, the coaches will say he gives us the best chance to win like this year. Either that or, Pruitt is doing this to try to keep Bailey. If Bailey sees we have good Fr qbs then maybe he doesn't want to come. I'm not sure why we are attached to Jaratano.

So, you would rather suffer in every area on offense except the occasional deep throw instead of that being the only real area of suffering?
Look I'm not dogging his great play last week or promoting JG, just saying he's a freshman that was always 3rd string for a reason. No since in assuming that because he can hit a great deep ball we should just assume we need to give him the reigns.

You don’t understand football.

What’s clear is that we have one old QB on our roster who’s time is almost up. We have two young guys on the roster that we don’t know much about. Maurer prolly is the best QB on the roster but he has durability issues plain and simple. JG is also injured, among other liabilities. We have Shrout who is pretty much an unknown. Given his performance vs USC, there was zero reason to not let him play an entire quarter or first half vs a team like UAB that’s basically a practice squad. As of now, we have one healthy QB. It’s asinine to not see how he does thru good play and bad play to see what we have.

I assume Pruitt’s willingness to pull or sit a QB based on flow is him learning how to coach and manage that position. However, mistakes Shrout will make will be due to youth. Mistakes that continue to happen with JG are simply due to inability and IQ.

Vs UAB, it was dumb to play JG knowing what he brings to the table.

You should bitch about him in every thread. It seems to be the only thing you post about.

Harrison Bailey will be a solid quarterback for Tennessee. I think he'll most likely be another Casey Clausen.
