Back up qb: are we being gullible?

Why does JG continually get the starting job when it's pretty dang obvious he's no good?

Is his father famous? Are his family boosters?

There's got to be a reason that this spoiled little brat continually gets to start when it's clear to thousands of people that he is just not that good at playing QB for UT.
One word. Experience

I will give JG credit for the beating he took the past couple of years but it is time for a change.
There explanation for the way he played last night late throws check down when he had time to scan the field. Counted 5 times BYU should have intercepted. Staring down receivers is going to get them blasted.
We have talent with WR and TE just got to get them the ball.
You could see by the play calling JC has no confidence in him and if all we can do is run the edges their is not chance of winning a SEC game
Need to give the backups a chance Would be happy to see a gunslinger that has confidence in their self to let it fly.
We need a change this team has talented players just got to give them a fighting chance and JG is not the answer coaches have to see this if not this will not change and the talent will stop coming here.

I’m just saying to trust the backups more than we’ve been programmed to. BM is NO joke. That kid can play.
His downside is way too many picks. Doubt he gets the nod if only because of this. Hell he threw 2 picks and led the offense to 3 whole points in half a Spring game. Doesnt look ready yet. Shrout looked steady in that game. Wouldnt mind him getting a shot.

I saw Harrison Bailey ball out against a nationally ranked high school team from talent rich Pennsylvania. I think the recruiting services are legit on that kid. He’ll be a day one starter.

Why would a HS QB with his capabilities sign to play with a team so desolate? Bailey will be playing somewhere else next year.

Getting used to the speed of the game. And let’s not forget that Shrout threw a pick that was pretty ugly itself. He got bailed out with a premature whistle. Just because it didn’t show up on a stat sheet doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.

I’m telling you.... if BM gets on the field and he’s given a legitimate opportunity (not just a few series or one game) Tennessee football will be much more fun to watch.

I agree with you there. I like having a quarterback that can move a little bit. I don’t think Shrout offers us that. BM looked like he had potential in the spring game

He’s fun to watch for sure. And I agree JTS probably gives us a lot of the same imo.

You mean JG or Pruitt? If you mean JG his leash should be chocking him by now.
No. Pruitt. There is a point of no return. He's lost to two teams that he should have beaten by 3 TD's already. The longer he waits to make the QB change... the more this will continue with no good explanation... and the tighter the leash will get.

I am actually surprised he has gotten worse than last year. Maybe he is having to think too much with a new oc calling plays that are also new. Who knows. He is worse. No doubt about that.
He has been asked to throw down field more and he just can't do it consitantanly. Thus the over and under throws. Cause our coaching staff knows to be a winning team you must be able to throw downfield to get the defensive teams from loading the box on you. Thats why I think he has regressed.

JG is a qb that's looks good on the practice field but chokes when it's time to play in a game. Put BM in let him play. We have nothing to lose at this point. We are not going to win with JG. Clemson pulled a veteran QB last year and went with a freshman. Look what happened. A qb change has to be made. The UTC game is the place to do it.

Yes definately this week, it would be a shame to put a back up qb in to start in the fla. game. If pruitt doesn't make a change this week I don't believe he will change barring injury. And it possibly will wind up costing him his job.

I agree JG is not a first team qb.. Why not give the backups a chance. What have we got to lose. Do you remember Peyton when he was given the chance. They took a chance on him. I am not saying any of these are a Peyton Manning but give someone else a chance. JG is to slow deciding who to throw to or locks on a receiver the whole way or throws into double and sometimes triple coverage. At times he holds the ball too long. Who can this team beat. It is going to be awful against Fla, Ga, and Ala especially!!!!
Peyton got his chance to start when Jerry Colquitt and Todd Helton in front of him went down with injury and the only other scholarship QB was Branndon Stewart...another true freshman. Wouldn’t qualify as “given the chance” as much as NO OTHER CHOICE.

And Maurer will transfer if he doesn't get to play and I don't blame him. Because JG will be back next year and he isn't pulled this next week he is going to be the starter the rest of his college career. And Maurer knows this.

If Pruitt leaves JG in, knowing he hurts the team’s chances to win, it means he’s written off this year and possibly next. This would be horribly unfair to the University, the people who hired him, the fans, Maurer, and the team.

Old saw: the most popular man on campus is the second string q.b. on a losing team.
I agree. Everyone wants the backup until he throws a pick or two. Jarrett is going through his 3rd OC change in the past 4 years. This one allows him to change plays at the Line in a more Peyton Manning way. I think that is clogging his head some to begin the year. Last year he did a hellavuh job With the line the way it was considering he was on his back most of the time. Give him until after game 6. I think he’ll get it together. He has an NFL arm and a high ceiling. He’s just never had time in the pocket And a steady OC like most college quarters get the liberty of.

So, I know everyone is on the "try the other guys wagon" (so am I), BUT.....is there any chance they really do? Or is it wishful thinking?

to me it only makes sense to have "somebody" with some in-game experience just-in-case there is an injury to JG...

GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is an AD above him that has a high football IQ and pedigree, along with a love for the University of Tennessee...surely there will be a meeting or two before Pruitt allows JG to spearhead our beloved team to the abyss!

I wonder if Back ups getting the majority of the reps in camp, isn't only for being ready to be a back up? Might be a stretch of a question, maybe not.
