Azzanni Departing to NFL

No, I would call the bears a sinking ship.

Cutler is on the block
Fox future is day to day

Edit:

Alshon is a potential FA

That's life in NFL. I doubt in his interview they said hey we are a sinking ship but we want you on board because you suck too.

My Replacements for Azzani:

Zach Smith (tOSU) $160,000/yr - Great recruiter

Jeff Scott (Clemson) $215,000/yr - Put a lot of talent in the league

Ron Dugans (Miami) - More SoFL Inroads

Damien Craig (LSU) - Inroads into the Boot

Curtis Luper (TCU) - Inroads into Texas. Great recruiter.

Lawrence Dawsey (FSU)$370,000/yr Good coach/recruiter

I said the same thing elsewhere but that number is old, think he got paid $220k last year. Still over a $100k less than we were paying Z though, definitely worth taking a run at and I believe he covers some of the same recruiting territories that Z did. Also, had much better results doing so and I believe he is the overall RC at OSU.

I hope not. I hope we get a young coach. Someone who can recruit.

I can agree with that.

But as I said at the beginning of this thread, with it being this time of year, I don't see a hire that will make the VN happy.
Most will want a guy from a huge school with a winning team. That sounds great in theory, but hard to convince a lateral move at this stage in the game.

Hubbs is thinking that TJ Weist might be near or at the top of the list.

He's been the best WR coach that Jones has ever had. I'm still wondering why he didn't come along when all the others left Cincinnati. Been an OC twice at mid majors.

I grumble for years about how average he is and the he gets hired to the same job in the NFL. All my hopes and dreams of making six figures a year evaluating D1 coaches are looking to be in vain.

I'm guessing and only guessing, that it's because he got an OC offer.

Cross off Zach Smith and you have a decent list. Smith is a Twitter punk with some bad Vol history (see Guarantano recruitment)

What about Jeff Faris?

  • He's the current Wide Receivers Coach at Duke, since 2014
  • Knoxville Native
  • Young Up-and-comer
  • He was the #79 recruiter in 2017 class (Azzanni was #87).

Obvious candidate for me is Contact Cincinnati and bring Willie Martinez back. He would be an awesome WR coach as much as his DB's get torched

"Zach, I appreciate what you have done for me while at UT, but I think its time we part ways. I wish you the best of luck at your next stop. Here are a few locations that are looking for a quality receivers coach and I have written this nice letter and put it in your file. Again, thanks for all you have done for this team while you have been here. Oh, and leave your key on my desk"

So has it been confirmed he was pushed out....was it more recruiting had fallen off or he was pissed about oc position......any solid info yet

If this is the case then why would a NFL team hire him at same position. I'm sorry it just doesn't make sense. People don't get promoted for doing a lousy job in the real world.

Good God man give it a rest. Azzani and Bajakian might not be the worst coaches ever but there is plenty of evidence that says they aren't as great as you make them out to be either. Hell Derek freakin' Dooley is an NFL coach and he sucks regardless of what anybody has to say about it. It's not all on Azzani but these receivers didn't improve with him coaching them and it's as plain as day if you'll open your eyes. Instead of defending him be glad he's gone and an opportunity has opened to actually get someone in here that will improve the play of the wr position.

I won't disagree about wanting to control his offense, though he's not the first coach to do it.

I named 5 coaches, three of them were offensive hires that he had not worked with before.
I know, I know. He talked to Canales about coaching at coaching conferences. As soon as we rule those people out, seems the availability of hiring anyone kind of goes out the window though.

Right, definitely not the first, but most coaches who do that limit their potential.

By definition, if you only look at your buddies or people you've worked with before, you are reducing your chances of finding the best guy for the job because you limit the pool at the outset. There is definitely something to be said for familiarity, but when you only hire guys you know or guys you can control I don't think you wind up with the best staff.

Not according to what article Ron just posted by Hubbs. He says CJ will be looking for P5 experience and that's why Weist isn't at the top of the list.

You are correct, I misread what Hubbs said. I will edit and thanks.
But I will also have to see if power5 is the determining Factor. I'm not sure why Hubbss thinks Butch automatically goes that direction.

His contract was up also

He had advanced notice that it wasn't going to be renewed, just like Mahoney

Dameyune Craig was let go from LSU after one lackluster year, and wasn't retained at his own alma mater in Auburn after two years. No thanks.

He can recuit, but not develop. Sound familiar?

He's just a name y'all recognize, so you jump on it. Hiring him would be a lateral move.
