Azzanni Departing to NFL

You are correct. Shoop, Hoke and Scott were hired with no experience whatsover.

Nice try. Wasn't talking about Shoop or Hoke , but when has Scott or Wells ever coached OC or OL? Butch did a good job on hiring on the D side of the ball but not so much on the offensive side.

see that's what i thought too. i think Fox is on a sinking ship up there, so i don't know how much sense this makes from a a career longevity standpoint for CZA.

which leads me to believe it's more sour grapes about not getting any part of the OC job here....jmo.

Tend to agree with you. It does add variety to his resume and that might help him get another shot at an OC position for another program.

My Replacements for Azzani:

Zach Smith (tOSU) $160,000/yr - Great recruiter

Jeff Scott (Clemson) $215,000/yr - Put a lot of talent in the league

Ron Dugans (Miami) - More SoFL Inroads

Damien Craig (LSU) - Inroads into the Boot

Curtis Luper (TCU) - Inroads into Texas. Great recruiter.

Lawrence Dawsey (FSU)$370,000/yr Good coach/recruiter

Wells is an ol coach. That's what he does.

And as far as coaches Butch formerly worked with, he has not worked with Hoke, Shoop, Wells, Scott or Canales before their time here. The myth of this far exceeds the reality.

About to get flamed but here it goes:

I get why Azzanni got blame the first 3 years, but it seems like year 4 showed everything people had wanted from the position:
Malone developed and had great season
Jennings developed(and wasn't wr when he came in)
Byrd showed promise as a freshman when he came in as a db and had little time with Azzanni
Josh Smith has shown improvement, but still has the injury bug and the occasional baffling drop

It just looks like the results people said were lacking, were there in year 4. Not to say the WR core is perfect, but there was a lot of improvement. I think Azzanni needed to go, I just don't quite get all the blame he still gets. Martinez was weakest link on staff last 4 years imo

I'll bet Malone suddenly found his game just to get to the league

Jennings while had some great moments still leaves a lot on the table from a physical and fundamental standpoint

They're screaming from the smokies for Byrd on D

Smith is barely staying afloat year after year

Let's not crown him the greatest WR coach we had

Wells has been coaching primarily OL for over 20 years.

Butch isn't a defensive guy, so he's more willing to hire good, qualified people who he hasn't worked with before on that side of the ball.

The offensive side of the ball is his domain, and he has a well-documented habit of only hiring buddies, people he has worked with before, or cast-off guys (like Canales) even if there appear to be more well-qualified people available. He wants people under him who are going to do what he says.

Sure - what else do you think the Bears looked at before they hired him?

If I was the Bears, and I wanted to hire a new WR coach from the college ranks, I'd want a guy that I thought fit the system but also set the world on fire at his previous job.

Well ZA made the most with what he had from the QB position.

They both had experiece just not at power 5 level, Scott at high school and maybe South Florida not sure? and Wells at Western Kentucky or Eastern Kentucky or maybe both.

Once again Volnation is proven wrong about a coach. Bajakian was crap but he goes to NFL, De"bored" captained one of the most prolific offenses in UT history straight off his couch, now azziani moves up to NFL but according to Volnation geniuses he is awful. Lol this place never fails to amuse.

Bajakian took a massive pay cut and a demotion. He didn't "go" to the NFL...he was shown the door and given an opportunity to find another job.

My Replacements for Azzani:

Zach Smith (tOSU) $160,000/yr - Great recruiter not going backward just to be in the sec

Jeff Scott (Clemson) $215,000/yr - Put a lot of talent in the league just won a title he's not moving unless it's a OC gig

Ron Dugans (Miami) - More SoFL Inroads A butch move

Damien Craig (LSU) - Inroads into the Boot one potential sinking ship to another?

Curtis Luper (TCU) - Inroads into Texas. Great recruiter. A Butch move

Lawrence Dawsey (FSU)$370,000/yr Good coach/recruiter another guy that won't go backward for the same position

Jmo.

You would really want him as OC? He can't even coach the WRs how the hell is he going to coach a complete offense?

Lol! He did the best he could considering the lack of arm talent at QB.... Hard to blame him for ducks thrown in the dirt 10 yards short of the WR. Dude would be a fine OC.

I won't disagree about wanting to control his offense, though he's not the first coach to do it.

I named 5 coaches, three of them were offensive hires that he had not worked with before.
I know, I know. He talked to Canales about coaching at coaching conferences. As soon as we rule those people out, seems the availability of hiring anyone kind of goes out the window though.

What about James Coley?

  • He's the current Wide Receivers Coach at UGA, so he has 1 year SEC experience.
  • He worked with Larry Scott at Miami from 2013-2015 as OC/QB coach.
  • Also has tight end coaching experience from FSU in his past. He could assume that job from Larry Scott, or at least work with him on the TEs.
  • He was the #49 recruiter in 2017 class (Azzanni was #87).

If Z stays then butch is an idiot for keeping a terrible coach, bisa, blah blah but if coach Z upgrades his and leaves for NFL then he is leaving a sinking ship. Lol. Got it.

No, I would call the bears a sinking ship.

Cutler is on the block
Fox future is day to day

Edit:

Alshon is a potential FA

He found another job in the NFL. Not bad for a terrible coach. And he is still there. Must be really bad to still be coaching.

Hubbs is thinking that TJ Weist might not be near or at the top of the list because of lack of power 5 experience. Not sure that will matter to Jones though.

Maybe the receivers ran the wrong route, Maybe he threw while getting hit, Possible could just be a bad throw. there a lot of things that effected Dobbs passing not just his arm talent. Many nfl scouts loved Dobbs at the Senior Bowl!!!

What does it mean? They are so bad the NFL wanted them?

"Zach, I appreciate what you have done for me while at UT, but I think its time we part ways. I wish you the best of luck at your next stop. Here are a few locations that are looking for a quality receivers coach and I have written this nice letter and put it in your file. Again, thanks for all you have done for this team while you have been here. Oh, and leave your key on my desk"
