Away Uniforms

I prefer the white on white "stormtrooper" look, myself. I just think it looks so clean and classy looking. The white on orange just looks "off," in my opinion. I wish we'd bring back the white cleats, too. This pic of Gibril Wilson with the all white is our best looking away uniform.

I do really like the white on white look, but white on orange is just something even better. I'd like having white on orange be our base look on the road but bringing out white on white once a year or so.

I think you just say this cause you know UT's white on orange looks better than any uni bama has. sorry but I can't trust a bama fan on this issue. No offense.

If you'd said white-on-white, I might have actually agreed. But the white-on-orange falls well behind both of Bama's combinations. Heck, it falls behind our pro combats with the goofy houndstooth added in.

I've always liked Bama's classic uni's...but I am a fan of all classic unis.

Nebraska, Penn St, TN, Bama, Michigan are some of my favorites.

I don't even want to see linemen squeezed into baby pants
Tennessee hasnt worn that all orange look in a while, they usually bust it out once a decade.

2009 against Auburn.

I think it's kind of ridiculous people act like the orange pants are "bad luck". For one, they did just fine in them during the Majors era. Second Fulmer only wore the orange pants 3 times in the 16 seasons he coached:
1999 against Memphis, 2007 against LSU, and 2008 against UCLA. It's kind of hard to judge the pants when you hardly wear them.

And finally 2009 and 2010 they came back but honestly, the program was/is down so acting like the orange pants had anything to do with losing to teams like Florida, Alabama, and Auburn is silly.

Here is the inner nerd in me coming out:
Record with Orange pants since 2000.
2000 Memphis W*
2007 LSU (Sec championship) L*
2008 UCLA: L
2009 Florida L
2009 Auburn L*
2009 Alabama L
2009 South Carolina W
2009 Ole Miss L
2010 Georgia L
2010 Memphis W
2010 Vanderbilt W
*=Home orange on orange look.

So our record since 2000 In orange pants is an awful 4-7

But I still love the White on Orange look:loco:

the problem here is that we wore the orange pants since 1977 and you are discounting some very big wins like 1985 and 1983 in Birmingham against Alabama and 1980 42-0 massacre of Auburn on the plains. All of those were with the orange pants.

Nothing beats the '86 Bama game (except for the score) when UT wore orange shoes to go with the orange jerseys and pants! They donated the turf shoes to some school in Russia after the game.

All i know is the white on orange is bad luck seems like we have lost every game with wearing that uni. Anybody have our record when we wear them?

It's not bad luck, it's just our team has sucked. We brought them back for the first time in a while @UCLA and that was Fulmer's last year.

I'm an old school guy and hated the thought of black coming into our uniform but I personally liked the black jerseys. I've been following the Vols for years and know and respect our tradition but I don't think black would hurt a bit. Imagine orange jerseys with black numbers or vise versa, same with the pants with the stripe being either black or orange opposite the pant color. A Tennessee orange helmet with a black stripe and power T would look sharp or black helmet with orange stripe and power T. My opinion fire away!!! No one loves the vols more than me I just think change wouldn't be all that bad!!

I was a fan of the jerseys from 1987. They had a light gray outline around the numbers. The picture of Reggie Cobb on govols.com from this past weekend shows the home jersey. (the picture caption said 1989 but that was a picture from 1987.)

The 2000 Memphis game was horrible. I blamed the pants. Always hated the orange on orange. The color of the pants didn't match the jerseys in the 07 SECG. On the other hand, I love the white on orange for road games.

The Memphis game where we wore orange on orange was 1999, not 2000. As far as not matching, I agee. It is probably a material issue.

I like it! Don't know why people think different color/style uniforms would "disrespect" our tradition. It would still have Orange in it and wouldn't be worn every single game. I'm with you, fire away!

the real problem is we can't seem to get any of the oranges to match...the helmet orange, pants orange, jersey orange and numbers orange are all slightly different shades....has anyone else noticed this?

but for the record....white on white with 2 stripes on the pants any day over orange pants...and forget about white cleats...the eric berry pic from earlier is absolutely uniform perfection!

i personally would love to see the throw backs a little more frequently...you know the white jersey with orange shoulders

It is changed, at least at the NCAA level. I believe it's up to the conferences now.

The only use for white anymore is if both teams wear similar colors. I think all of the games should go color-on-color.
