Tennessee rarely wore white jerseys before 1971. And every SEC rivalry featured both teams wearing their colors. Auburn-Alabama, Tennessee-Alabama, Ole Miss-Miss State, Auburn-UGA. The only teams to traditionally wear white both at home and on the road was LSU and GaTech. But Tech went to old gold jerseys in the late 60's.

UT tried to wear their orange jerseys against Alabama in '09 but Alabama refused to let us. That year the SEC encouraged teams to do the color jersey vs. color jersey for rivalry games but to my knowledge no teams did it. In fact the only major teams I know that have done it are USC and UCLA, which were the teams that got the ball rolling.

I believe that UT could never wear their white jerseys if every other team agreed, because every other team has a color that is contrasted enough. The only exceptions I believe would be if Vandy wore their gold jerseys and if Florida wore their orange jerseys.

I would like to see us wear Tennessee Orange jerseys on the road and give up the timeout. Just a little bit of telling the rest of the sec to take a hike. After all, that is the real Tennessee tradition.

Guess I'm in the minority.

All white is awesome. The white with orange pants kind of suck. I don't really care for the neon orange look. I prefer the pale orange.

Since UGA is getting Pro-Combat for the chik fil la kickoff game, and ours is next yr could we possibly do something too?

Based on how traditional Dooley is with the uniforms and other gear, there is very little chance we ask adidas for something like that.

adidas has tried to put us in some unique "special" designs, along the lines of a Pro-Combat, but they have been rejected by an AD and two coaching staffs.

We actually have bad luck in the all Orange unis. Fulmer brought back the White-on-White but it was Adidas who introduced that autrocious all White uni with the Orange stripes missing. Those unis will forever be known as the Long Johns.

Actually, it wasn't Adidas, we started wearing the solid white pants on the road in 1995 and added them at home in 1996, when we wore Sports Belle uniforms and Nike cleats.


Adidas did keep the solid white pants when they took over the contract in 1997.

I'm not a big fan of white on white. I like orange on white and white on orange as our uniform combination. I don't like solid uniforms and that includes orange on orange and white on white.

why the hell did we have wyoming as the home team at Nashville? I could have sworn I heard we had to do it that way because your shoulder pads had too much orange in them.

You're thinking of the 2004 UNLV game at Neyland. That's the game we wore the orange shoulder throwbacks. Wyoming 2002 was the debut of the white set with a solid orange stripe under the arms.

We were the road team against Wyoming because we agreed to a 2-for-1 deal where we played them twice here, and agreed to go there once. That was written with the understanding that they would sell their home game to an NFL stadium.

This was back when the NCAA required a certain average attendance to remain in Division 1-A. By moving the game to Nashville, Wyoming got to claim a 70k home crowd, which kept them above the minimum average for the two year evaluation period.

Wyoming got a big crowd, and we split the gate receipts with them. Win-win.
