Automobilia etc....

The problem with Chevy passenger cars is that Honda, Mazda, Hyundai/Kia, Toyota, and even Nissan make better passenger cars.

As well as BMW, Mercedes, Audi, and VW...AND for a similar price!

VW, definitely. I don't know of any Audi, BMW or Mercedes that is price competitive with a Chevy Cruze or Malibu, or even Impala, all of which can be had with decent options for less than $30 grand.

The "Premier" Chevy Cruze is $28,500, the Benz CLA250 is $35,000. Yes, $6,500 more but...ya know...CLA>Cruze lol..

The Impala starts at 27k so you can def find a BMW/Benz in that range when you start adding options to the Impala.

but is it $6500 better? I doubt it very much. I like the CLA, but by the time you option one up to the level of that Premier Chevy Cruz, you're well into C-class territory, approaching E-class.

I don't think any Cruze, Impala, or Malibu can touch any Benz/Bimmer, but that's just me.

thats why I didn't include them in my first list. The average Chevy sedan buyer isn't going to be thinking about a low-spec Mercedes or BMW that starts out several thousand more before adding options like Bluetooth, panoramic sunroof, etc.

Yeah. I don't get the logic. It's apples and oranges. A base 320i doesn't even come with a rear view camera. To get one equipped like a nicely equipped Honda or Toyota you would have to spend easily an extra $10,000.

We could also talk about the size of the vehicle. A well equipped Accord is going to give you a noticeable amount more space than a 3 series.

Talking new for new here.

The Honda or Toyota will never feel (drive) like the BMW.

They meet different needs/satisfy different market segments.

RWD and German suspension magic is insanely difficult to replicate for some reason.

Understood and I agree. But I do not feel that they are going for the same market.

Not to mention the wow factor of a Benz/BMW from most folks who don't realize how close in price they actually are to other brands.

Example, my new work van is a Mercedes. Every other customer mentions it and talks about how sweet it is. No one ever said anything about my GMC lol. So when I was out shopping for a new work van, I looked at the Ford Transit, Nissan NV, Chevy City Express, the Dodge thing and then Benz was the same price or CHEAPER than some of the others. And now, people assume that I run a good business, trust that I won't damage their cars or whatever, use quality products on their home or business, and all because of my presentation. It's comical, really, but it's the truth.

So, if you have 30k to drop on an Impala, I don't understand not spending the extra 7k and getting a Benz/Bimmer. Again, just my opinion.

For the sake of discussion, what new BMW or Mercedes can you get for $37,000 that has the same amount of front or rear legroom as the impala?

I also think you are underestimating how much $7,000 is to someone who is looking for a car between $25-30k.

30k is not a cheap car and anyone who has the credit and/or cash to get that could also probably afford 35-45k. I'm not singing to the people who are looking to spend 15k and under on a used ride. They should probably avoid German and buy a used Honda. Even though, I believe a year or 2 old certified pre owned is the way to go on a Bimmer/Benz, because you save a ton of money and still have a new car with a warranty.

Basically, buying new is for fools. German, Japanese, American...whatever. Scoop up a year or 2 old and save yourself some coin.

Rented a car this weekend. Ended up in a 2016 Chevy Equinox. I'd take one if you gave one to me, but I wouldn't buy one.

It rides well enough. The 4 cylinder has a lot of work to do, though. It's a direct-injected engine, and it sounds like a diesel when idling. Seats aren't very comfortable. Speakers have "Pioneer" logos on them, but their sound is underwhelming.

Steering is numb and by comparison, by 2011 Fusion handles like a Mini Cooper.

good choice, I had a neighbor that ordered the two-door 3 series in a standard/manual transmission, and it was a pretty fun car to ride around in

I had a 328i (current style) with a manual and found the manual to be a poor match for the turbo four. While there's not much turbo lag it seemed to be just in the wrong place for smooth shifting and for rev matching downshifts.

My current one is the auto and I like it better (which I thought I'd never say).

I've made my mind. My next daily driver needs to be a BMW 3 series if I can swing it.

I have one coming off lease in just over a year - I got side swiped so it had driver side doors replaced and as a result BMW may want to make someone a deal on it when I turn it in.

If someone planned to keep it a while it would be a good deal. Will probably only have 20K miles when I return it.
