Austin Rogers

P.S. I like how having a strong opinion will get people upset on here. I've been reading posts for a while now, and it seems that the popular thing to do is bash posters who don't have over 1 or 2 thousand posts. Just thought it was funny.

opinions get blasted when no one has a frame of reference for your posts (esp when you start off taking shots at UT players). That comes with time and is probably why you see it that way. It's no different than any other board around I can assure you.

-Should Austin Rodgers be a starting WR for the University of Tennessee this season?

If he earns it in practice then yes. He has definitely earned the right to be in the discussion. I will trust the guys whose paycheck is from UT much more than some random guy on the internet.

Re-read post. He did not win the game for us in the 4th quarter. Yes, I watched that game.

Let me ask everyone who reads this a question, and all you have to do is respond with a "yes" or "no."

-Should Austin Rodgers be a starting WR for the University of Tennessee this season?

No, but if you would get your head out of your rear, you'd realize that this entire debate has nothing to do with him starting. You were claiming that AR was not a quality reciever, and after overwhelming evidence disproving you, you refused to swallow your pride and admit you were incorrect. You are incredibly stubborn, close minded, and immature. I still can't believe that a grown person would actually refer to a man as a "turd". I'm guessing you are around 15.

I've got no problem with him playing IF he earns it, but from what I've seen from him, I don't see that happening. What I'm looking for from the WR position is playmaking ability. You can bash me if you want, but IMO the kid doesn't have it.

A rational and defendable post.

Quit while you're even.

Opinions are just that, opinions, and are never correct or incorrect. To me, he is terrible. Does that make you happy Mr. Turd Police? He is terrible. You can throw you #'s around and "overwhelming evidence" (from 2007-a single season) but you will not, and I said this in one of my first posts on this board, change my opinion of the guy. The only person that can change that opinion is AR himself, by busting his rear day in and day out during practice, work on actually catching the football, make a few big plays, keep drives going, and give the offense a boost. I'm not going to hold my breath until he does these things, but UT has always been known for their WR's, but all of the sudden it's ok to be mediocre. Call me 15, call me a tool, call me a d-bag, but that is fact to me.

Do what? Yes opinions ARE either correct or incorrect. We sometimes don't have the means to test them but truth is always truth. Opinions are correct to the extent they agree with reality/truth.

Your opinion is "incorrect" because it flies in the face of factual reality. I'm sorry you don't like it but calling something an "opinion" doesn't give you a pass on the laws of reason and logic.

I have never said AR walks on water. I'd love for the Vols to have a better option but they haven't had one for the past two years. During that two years, Rogers has NOT been the worst WR on the Vols' team, has been better than several names you've thrown out, and has compared well in one season to the very best receivers in the SEC.

You could have shortened this to "I've got an opinion... don't confuse me with facts".

People like you are how empty suits get elected President. Not trying to turn the subject to politics but you are very much parallel to the 53% of Obama voters who didn't know the Dems controlled Congress... They didn't want to be bothered with facts either.
How many times do I have to say "In my opinion" for people to understand that it is in my opinion? I undestand the ones who have thousands of posts like to pad them even more by bashing on the "new postsers." I will admit to being wrong about one thing, that I should have used a better word to describe how terrible I think AR is than "turd." But at this point, I think you all get the picture.

I'm not "bashing" you. If you can't stand the warmth of this discussion then don't post your "opinion"... because when they are devoid of objective reasoning someone here will probably call you on it.

Stop trying to play the victim just because we don't buy into the modern non-sense that every opinion is just as valid and worthy as any other. If you can't back up you opinion with something then you can be willfully ignorant as much as you want... but you'd avoid this type of embarrassment by keeping those opinions to yourself.

If you said "I think he's ugly" at least you'd have a reason... or maybe "I don't like the number 21". Those would be good reasons but they'd at least be something tangible.

So saying, "I don't think Austin Rodgers is a good football player" isn't ok either? Because that is exactly what I am saying. As I said before, saying he was a "turd" was a little immature, and I could have definitely used another word for how I THINK he is. Look, I'm not saying anything that any other fan who dislikes AR wouldn't say. I'm not acting like any victim here, I just don't get how some of you will get up in arms when any player is disliked. I am not the only person who thinks AR shouldn't be on the team. I am not the only person who thinks he is mediocre, at best. But I guess my opinion that he shouldn't be on the team is completely wrong. I guess my opinion that he is a mediocre talent is completely wrong. It just blows my mind that I get called names by some people, and told I'm completely wrong by some people for saying that I don't think he is a good player, especially for the University of Tennessee. There's no proof, there's no facts that I need to bring to the table for saying what's on my mind. If I think he is terrible, then fine, leave it at that. I you think he is a good WR, then fine, I'll leave it at that. But putting stats up here isn't going to make me all of the sudden say "Wow, he is really good." It's not going to happen.

Progress.

I think the fact that Austin Rogers has played a fairly significant role on the team speaks volumes as to the former coaching staff's ability to evaluate and develop talent.

Interesting you should mention Swain since his combine 40 times were 4.60 and 4.68. Also, that Swain's best season ('06) had him catch 7 fewer passes than AR's best, though he did garner 64 more yards.

So, AR's best season (as a SO)
56-624-4

JS's best season (as a Sr)
49-688-6

With those 40 times it's a very real possibility AR is faster than Swain was as well. I'm having difficulty seeing how much that comparison helps your case.

He made more plays than AR. Also he was a heck of a lot more sure handed.

It's a shame when Kentucky is considered a big game to some. Please don't give me the line all the games are big. Because we all know some matter more than others.

If Tennessee loses to Kentucky it's a pretty big loss.
