Attention: Lane Kiffin proponents

Kiffin is just another in vogue commodity right now...no different than say Petersen. However at least Chris is coaching and doing okay.

I would not want Kiffen at all...just watching him in that press conference...whatever...regardless of the senile state Davis is in Kiffin looked like a little punk.

Mark this down...UT will go after a proven winner both on the W columna and the recruiting column...UT Football has not other choice with what Saban, Meyer, Miles and Richt are doing. Remeber all those schools had to rise to the occasion to pull away from the Spurriers and the Fulmers...UT will have to do the same. And in that respect...what has Kiffin done except get himself fired.

Davis, Stoops, Gruden...those are your big 3 for starts. Mike Leachs name may come up as well. Not saying we'll get them by any means...just saying thats where they'll begin the search.

The Kiffins, Petersens etc...those name won't come up unless we come up short.

Also, buyouts etc... salary etc... $$$ will not be an issue. Anybody that thinks so...your just crazy.

Mike Leach is pretty far from a proven winner.

I just don't see a Mike Leach system doing much against the power houses of the SEC. Wasn't Leach Hal Mumme's offensive coordinator?

All stats, no hardware.

I think the offense could work with the right athletes, he would definitely have to modify it somewhat to put more emphasis on the run though. It is going to take an upset, but Tech could be in a BCS bowl this year.

I've never been a fan of any kind of offense except lining up and just being a better player than your man. Run first offense, then everything else will open up in due time.

To tell you the truth, for a young kid such as myself, I'm with you.

I myself, am a huge fan of the single wing, no joke. It has everything in an offense that I like. Power and deception.

i'm not sold on Kiffin. he had a fantastic run with USC, only had 3 losses in his tenure IIRC, although he didn't get a NC ring while he was there. i think he'd hang around here til something else came along that may pay better, but thats just my opinion.

I don't have a favorite set, but if I was given the reigns of getting players and building an offense I would find 5 of the nastiest, red meat eating, ugly, corn fed, un-coothed, big nastiest I could find and teach them how to take a man where I wanted him to go without drawing a holding call.

Tennessee's offensive line couldn't get a push versus Maryville High School.

I see. All you'd have to do to find those boys is go to Union County, and there are a plethora of 18 year old boys that you have described.

I don't think Kiffin is the guy we need. I live in L.A. and from what I've heard, Chow (obviously) and Sarkisian were the big offensive minds at USC, not Kiffin. And I agree that he hasn't done anything that makes me get excited. I want someone young and fresh as well, thats why I say Peterson or maybe Venables from Oklahoma.

Well, they'll need to be able to be coached as well. I just think an offensive line needs to be as, or more nasty than most defensive lines in respects of wearing their man down.

I'm not going to lie, if I coached a football team I would condone nasty play, besides going after a man's knees, that I would not condone. There's so many accidental elbows to the groin a man can take before he's off his game and my team has drawn a competitive advantage.

I don't know about the nasty play, as I'm not a man of Madden's old saying that the fewer rules you have, the fewer there are to break.

If I was UT's coach, I would wear a suit with a fedora on the sidelines, and would demand that my boys were well coached, well diciplined, and acted like upstanding young gentlemen on and off the field, of course, those 8 seconds the play is going on withstanding

Well, the early line is Business' coached team by 13.5.

I think Kiffin would be great hire. He can recruit no doubt and has hc expeirience, unlike Muschamp.

5-15... great experience.

I will take 5-15 in the NFL over Fulmer any day. Same for Skip Holtz and whatever other crappy coach people want to say we should hire.

That being said I would take Venables, Sarkisian or Butch Davis over him. Kiffin would still be a helluva hire.

Thank you. The recruiting factor is probably the strongest arguement I've seen for him.

Well if he can get top notch talent ih here, then we won't need perfect coaching. I don't believe USC had perfect coaching ( nothing against Peter Carrol) but they had Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, Lendale White, Mike Williams, and Dwayne Jarret. They didn't run a complicated offense a few years ago.

Could one of you point out exactly what he has accomplished, that makes him a viable candidate for UT HC. I am mystified by the gushing over him, that I see on this board.

Thank you.

Exactly! JaMarcus Russell hasn't improved at all under his wing in Oakland. They have 3 great running backs to get up the passing game and they can't get it going. If you ask me, Vol fans are asking for of the same if they want Kiffin in charge. I want to build an offensive juggernaut at Rocky Top. I wish we had offered the job to Dan Hawkins two years ago when he was looking to cash in after his Boise State success. That is the kind of offensive mind that we need.
