Hahaha. I'm distracted by the chaos of the family packing their crap up and hauling it out to the car around me.

Fine. His OBP is still only .303. You can't lead him off.

My approach would be;

for a short term solution, use the short sample - hot hand

determining who would replace simmons for the season, as leadoff (theoretical) - use career/large sample numbers.

BJ is now 1 of last 18. No way you can argue him to be better than Pena at leadoff, right now, if Simmons isn't in the lineup.

This is about the same argument people made in 2010 for benching Heyward in favor of Jose Constanza. I disagreed with the "hot hand" argument then and I disagree with it now.

What if Pena goes 0 for his next 5? How do you know when the hot hand is over? You end up giving extra at bats to worse players because you put too much weight on a fluky little streak.

Agree to disagree. Without knowing today's result, I would've had BJ batting 6th and Pena batting first, just for today. We strikeout enough as it is, much less having BJ batting first in the order.

0-15 or whatever it was coming in doesn't cut it.

Apparently. If BJ Upton is starting off the season with usual .330 career obp, sure for a game or two, bat him leadoff.

I don't see how in the world you justify batting him leadoff today, that's all. Outside of one homer, he's in a huge rut to be batting at the top

Dammit you guys! My drunk ass is supposed to keep up with this thread and the life boat? I thought these multiple personalities were behind us.

The announcers on MLB just referred to Gattis as a "Bunyanesque story" :lol:
