I'm all for both, but Drexel's done more on the season and I don't like the odds of 3 getting in.
obviously i'm biased towards ODU, being a grad student here. Drexel has the resume, but ODU beat the crap out of them both times in conference play. I can't put Drexel in without putting ODU. However, I don't think the CAA can get three in. Drexel didn't look great in their semifinal loss and ODU looked dreadful. I just don't know if either will get in.
Given the way things have gone the last couple of days, I think a legitimate case can be made that Old Dominion and Drexel should both be in the field. Drexel did what the committee always tallks about, they went on the road and won. ODU got G'Town. If at least one of them, probably Drexel, doesn't get in, somethings wrong. In Bubble Suicide Watch, BYU just won. That means Wyoming now has no chance to poach a bid by winning the MWC.
Stats aside, Drexel's got 3 very good looking road wins and they're more recent than ODU's G'town win. Both teams have some horrendous losses. Difficult choice. I think you've convinced me to some degree that the two are about equal.Drexel may be more talented, but the NCAA tournament spots are rewarded on achievement, not performace. I know you know this, but others forget that they aren't the same thing.
Fair enough. I'm ambivalent on the Drexel ODU debate. The stat that no team with an RPI under 40 has never been left out of an NCAA tournament is pretty compelling.
I found updated RPI ratings
RealTimeRPI.com Men's College Basketball Rating Percentage Index (RPI) Ratings - A leading sports ratings and resources community on the Internet
RPI....Team
34 Oklahoma St
38 Old Dominion
39 Arkansas
40 Bradley
43 Drexel
44 Utah St
45 FSU
Based on that Arkansas should get in and the SEC would get 5 teams. Old Dominion should be in as well before Drexel.
