I would advocate putting the last 20 candidates for the final 10 at large spots in a hat and having a random drawing. Last year, the committe made several dubious inclusions into the field, most notably Air Force and Utah State, as well as the most egregious exclusion of all time, Cincinnati. This year, absent putting Clemson in the brackets, there is no way they can make those types of glaring mistakes. For example, everyone knows my personal favoritism towards Texas Tech and Kansas State. However, after watching their game today, I would not be able to work up much outrage if either, or both, are excluded. Further, there are teams that everyone is assuming are in that wouldn't have a compelling complaint if they were relegated to the NIT. Case in point, Arizona. Other than a home floor win over Memphis and some success against Oregon, what have they done to merit being assured a spot? Anyone who misses the tournament this year has nobody to blame but themselves.
