'26 ASU Transfer QB Sam Leavitt (LSU)

I’d take him and hope that GMac or FB were good enough to beat him out. But he is mobile!
He allegedly made $1.5 mil at Mizzou, last year. I just don't think you're getting him for less than $2 mil in the current (crazy) QB market. How comfortable are we paying a kid that kind of money and hoping he doesn't win the job? I'd have rather rolled the dice on Alonza Barnett, or someone similar, for less money if the plan was to take a kid you hope isn’t the best QB on the roster.

Any discussion known about Mac leaving if we sign Leavitt?
Basilio today indicates some rumblings going on about this.
Basilio has a habit of presenting his own beliefs/theories as facts.

I've believed that the idea of Leavitt having 2 more years of eligibility maybe scaring off GMac (and/or to a lesser degree, Brandon). Ideally, Leavitt kills it next year and goes pro. If not, Tennessee finds themselves in a position similar to what Bama nearly found themselves in with Ty Simpson. And that assumes you somehow convince the two currently rostered QBs to wait it out thru 2026 to begin with.

That is my own personal theory/fear in signing Leavitt. It is no more than a theory, though. I can see Basilio sharing that theory, but also falsely presenting it as some sort of validated concern from inside the AD.

I mean, probably an unpopular opinion, but if we were to sign Leavitt and George left...so what? The staff knows more about George than we do, so if they think we need a guy now, well, go get a guy now. If Faizon is who we think he is, he was probably going to beat GM out eventually. Just go sign a warm body as an emergency 3rd stringer. A backup at a G5 or FCS would probably rather get paid more to not play here rather than there.

We can't make moves based on what we think may eventually happen. We need dudes now. Guys that can contribute now. Half these kids end up leaving anyway. Do what you need to do to win now and don't worry about 27 or 28 bc half the roster you THINK you'll have then will have left by then anyway.

It's a new day in CFB. Kind of sucks, but you have to adapt or die.
Because then you only have 2 QBs heading into next season, which obviously isn't ideal. So then you have to try and convince another transfer to come be a backup for 2026. Highly unlikely you get anything other than a warm body to agree to that.

I’m not that worried about our qb situation. Heupel knows quarterbacks and he’s got a backup plan if it doesn’t workout for SL or JA. Keep loading up the defense and trenches!
I have a feeling JA gets the ruling. Just kinda feels like it'll happen

in the meantime

More defense booms please

I actually like Basilio. Is he wrong a lot? Yep. Do I agree with everything he says? Nope. There are some times he completely makes no sense with his takes, but his show is entertaining. I like the variety of callers he has on his shows, never a dull moment. Theres times the callers that call in are doofuses on their takes and then theres times when he is a doofus on his takes. I think some of its by design, just for entertainment. So theres that.
Yep all of this is true. He loves Tennessee and so do his callers and guests. He has the same conversations fans are having. It's entertainment.

Are you saying that Basilio has no insider info ? When he says he has insider info do you feel he is lying?

Nothing personal against anyone, but my default mode is to assume anyone claiming to have insider info is lying. Anyone can claim insider info. Sports talk hosts aren't immunized against presenting BS, and sometimes people don't even know what they said is BS because the "insider" is sharing info gained from a long game of telephone. Unless you are personally getting information from a primary source (an actual verified staffer inside the room where these matters are being decided and discussed), you should always have a healthy degree of skepticism.

I think his insider info was more on the baseball side and to a lesser extent, on the basketball side. His football info has proven to be spotty, at best, over time.

So the options are this.

Expericed QB ready to start now, a no experience talented backup who goes into 27 as the guy, and a warm body

OR

A guy physically not ready who's thrown 9 passes who may tranfer next year, a no experience backup who may transfer next year if he loses the job, and a transfer who may or may not be talented enough to win the job.

I'll go option A because the only guarantee here is in 2 years either George or Faizon will be gone. I'm going to take the guy who gives me the best chance to win now.

I agree with your statement in general about Basilio. But this is what I do know, the Spyre/Vol Club people have expressed some concern, based on their conversations with GMac's representation, that signing a sure-fire starter at QB COULD lead him into the portal. Not that it is a done deal. But the concern is legitimate.
Unless the agreement gets made/announced after the portal closes. Yeah, some folks would be critical of playing hardball like that, but this is now business. And business is business.

Mac is not beating anyone out with the lack of weight he has put on. Cosches are very disappointed or they would not even be in the portal. No way he ever beats out Brandon.
I don't think the weight is the primary concern as it pertains to run ong the offense. He's likely got the brains and the arm. Problem is keeping him in one piece and upright through the season. He wants to give it a go at that weight instead of taking another season to get bigger and stronger, let him give it a go if his camp is on board with it. At that point, it's not like the coaches threw him into the deep end. Choices have consequences.

I'm seeing a lot of people dismissing Brandon. I don't think that it's best for him to be thrown to the wolves as a true freshman, but the kid is supposed to be a generational talent. He will eventually be the quarterback here.
We heard much the same about Nico's game and arm. Nattys and Heismans were gonna roll into Knoxville once he took the field.
